Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

This is a truly awful story. Here's a 22 year old kid fresh off probably the best start in his career... and someone runs a red light, killing 3 people. The person fled the scene but was soon arrested and taken to the hospital. Thoughts go out to his family and the Angels' organization.

For those who don't know who he is, Adenhart was one of the top prospects in the Angels' organization.

It's nice to see fans of random teams showing up there offering their condolences.

It’s days like these that you’re reminded baseball is only a game.

I went over there and left my condolences.

There really aren’t words to express how terrible a tragedy this is.

This is very sad

He just threw 6 scoreless last night too… very promising pitcher, went far too young. Hopefully there’s no foul play involved…

I think when you run a red light, kill 3 people, and then run on foot from the scene...

there’s something foul going on. Whoever that person was will have plenty of time to think about it in jail.

where it always seems there was more going on than just a crash. Too many ball players go out and make mistakes after a game, it’s sad to see an honest player fall victim to someone’s pure stupidity.

I can't imagine they'll play tonight in light of all this.

Especially when Chuck Finley was to be inducted into the Angels Hall of Fame tonight – definitely not the right atmosphere for that.

Just a sad story. My thought go out to Adenhart’s family, teammates and friends.

I love to play baseball. I'm a baseball player. I've always been a baseball player. I'm still a baseball player. That's who I am. - Ryne Sandberg

I picked him up for my fantasy team

and in the process, read his biography online. He struggled a bit but last night was a great outing and showed a lot of promise. On top of that, it said that he was influenced by his family to go into baseball and pursue his dreams after he could have stopped shortly after high school due to a few situations.

This has to be one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen in the sports world because according to all the "experts" and after watching this kid pitch last night, he had a chance to be a very good one.

Thoughts and prayers to his family and the Angels team and community.

In California...

…when you get a DUI, before you’re sentenced by the judge, state law says you MUST sign a paper acknowledging that if somebody dies as a result of another DUI, you will be charged with murder — NOT manslaughter.

Thanks for explaining why he will be charged with murder.

At least, we know he’ll be locked up for the rest of his life and not take any more lives.

Yes, anger will not bring back those killed in this horrific accident...........

and the 22 yr old has ended his life as he knew it as well. He will pay for his actions indeed, but anger and revenge will do nothing to help the families or friends of the victims or the family and friend of the accused.

If you had to choose just one characteristic that would get you through life, choose a sense of humor.

by Clutche on Apr 9, 2009 3:28 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

I can be angry. I have extreme sympathy for the victims' families and friends.

My deepest condolences to the families and friends of Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart and Henry Nigel Pearson, the other two killed in the crash.

Prayers for Jon Wilhite, who was in the car with Adenhart, Stewart and Pearson. He is listed in critical condition. I’ll even say a prayer for Raymond Alexander Rivera, who was a passenger in the van.

I have zero sympathy for Andrew Thomas Gallo. I have ZERO tolerance for driving drunks. I told my teenage kids, you drive drunk, you get caught, don’t expect me to drop everything to come to your side and bail you out. I’ll get there when I get there. Stupid actions on their part does not make an emergency on mine. Cold-hearted? Yes! DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!

Even driving buzzed is not cool.

As you can tell, this needless loss of lives has grabbed my ire.

It's not easy to withhold anger and feelings of revenge..........

but all they do is pollute the situation even more. I too condemn drunk driving and believe the accused should be punished to the full extent of the law, but it’s more productive to let that take it’s course and direct our energy and prayers to the victim and their family and friends.

If you had to choose just one characteristic that would get you through life, choose a sense of humor.

Revenge is not part of my equation

Gallo will get his day in court and stand in front of his Maker, not to mention other murderers in prison, if he is sentenced to prison-time.

In the comments at the bottom, he is comlaining that the game has been postponed stating that if they postponed games whenever someone dies it would be happening all the time. Last I checked, players don’t get killed in accidents on a regular basis. Unbelievable.
