Ken Macha Wants "Probe" of Dempster
Is this guy serious? First of all, that pitch didn't even hit Braun, and then Braun decided it was a good idea to stare at Demps all the way down first. Maybe they should probe Braun's showboating after home runs?
"The league frowns on people throwing at people's heads," Macha told reporters this morning. "I don't know if Bob Watson has looked at it or not. But I don't think that's a good idea, throwing at people's heads."
Don't forget that Theriot was drilled later in the game... if Macha wants Watson to look at this game, and the incidents that followed, he should be prepared for action to be taken for retribution. That's all I have to say about this. What a tool.

Macha was probably trying to instigate a beaning for Braun
to get cubs pitchers suspended. That or he is really really stupid. Is there any other explanation?

He probably knows the more he can hurt the Cubs now
the better off he’ll be later in the season when his team’s pitching falls apart and his guys start hitting the DL.

Is there something in the water in Milwaukee...
…that makes their managers so whiny? Looks like Macha is going down the same cry-me-a-river as Ned Yost. I guess this means Todd Wellemyer should have been reviewed and suspended for throwing at Soriano in the last Cubs-Cards series. Oh, but wait, Lou didn’t need to going crying to MLB – or the press – because he dealt with it on the field.
Braun got his revenge – and the Brewers heaped on the humiliation thereafter. Take your series win and walk away, sir.
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

That team is obviously bothered by all the Cub fans who fill their stadium.
Maybe they should do local ticket giveaways on Cub dates or someting. Oh wait, that won’t work because ownership loves a stadium full of Cub fans. Maybe they should just shut up then?

Macha is an idiot.
I’m sure Dempster wanted to put the leadoff man on base in front of Prince Fielder in a tight ballgame. In that situation, it’s stupid to even bring up the possibility of a purpose pitch. However, if Braun keeps doing his little cocky little straight-arm jaunt around the bases and slapping high fives with both base coaches, he is going to get more than his share of chin music by season’s end.

actually is not stupid
by doing so, the Umps could be instructed, to warn the benches before the next Cubs/Brewers series. In turn the Cubs throw less inside, leaving the ball over the outside corner or middle of the plate.
I am not saying I agree with him that there is any reason to review it, but it is part of the game within the game.

It could also be that the purpose is to protect his player next time.
I agree with you that if there is any real purpose behind his statements it’s to set the tone from the umps in the next meeting, but it could be for protecting his hitter against pitches from the Cubs. It’s not so much that his pitchers may not pitch inside, it could be that if the Cubs are more likely to retaliate for the “stare down” then maybe he can get some protection for his hitter from the umps. Even though Braun was “hit” it’s more likely that raun is a target next time because of the stare down or the way he admires his HRs.
by DudeVf11 on May 11, 2009 11:08 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm sure he does.
The only thing that the MLB PROBE will conclude is that Macha’s star player fell down like a sack of potatoes after fouling off a high-inside pitch, and then complained that “he hit me in the f*ing head!” to Hoffpauir.
I’m cool with HR celebrations – these guys are entertainers, and that was a big HR. But pretending to get hit by a pitch is AJ Pierzynski territory.

Quote from the link
The Cubs don’t believe there will be any punishment because Dempster slipped when he made the pitch and videotapes will show Braun was not hit in the helmet, despite the call.
Exactly right. Go watch the video again (it’s helpfully on the evil BCB in the “why Brenly hates Braun” post. It clearly shows Dempster slipping. The pitch just got away, and it hit Braun’s bat.
This is a ridiculous exercise and isn’t going to win Macha many friends. He must have inherited the stupid pills that Yost left behind in the clubhouse when he was fired.

I love how the DBacks won a WS in spite of Brenley
and how Brenley has no credability according to them.
Does that mean Braun has LESS credability after trying to convince everyone he was hit with a ball that clearly did not hit him?

I don't advocate Evil BCB hate...
…but a few of those posters need to wisen up. Brenly advocating VIOLENCE?? Brenly is bitter…? Of what? Not winning two rings? How many times have the brewers been in the bottom of the league since Brenly won it all? I especially like this response, which was Rec’d by a few peoeple…
Milwaukee, and Wisconsin sports teams in general, need some players like this. Good guys who are confident enough in their abilities to be a little cocky. When has a Milwaukee Brewers team ever had swagger?
So in order for Wisconsin teams to be good, they need to be cocky a-holes? Come on… team “swagger” isn’t a bunch of guys staring down opposing pitchers, showboating, and carrying-on like little leaguers and whining when things don’t go their way… swagger is what a team like the Blackhawks has… it’s a QUIET confidence. Brewers fans need to remember the phrase “speak softly, and carry a big stick.”

they should
make sure that the Umpires are aware of the hoopla and tell them that there needs to be a definitive ball to person contact in the future. this could actually cause Braun to be HBP with a pitch that is borderline to HBP or not, and going the pitchers way now. Macha might have actually hung himself here.

Hit by pitch?
Didn’t notice on replays that Dempster slipped on the pitch. But a reasonable, rational, baseball intelligent person would know that he didn’t throw at Braun. First, sadly Dempster didn’t have his best stuff and was struggling with his control (IMO) the whole game, Second it was a close ball game and you don’t put the lead off guy on base, Third I think most players know there is a time and place to deal with various issues. I think Dempster is smart enough to realize if he wanted to hit Braun there are plenty of games left in the season with the Brewers that a less crucial situation will arise to put Braun on base. Though I don’t think there was any intent behind the pitch.
Just wish that Braun could face vintage Gibson or Drysdale after his showboating HR trot. They’d still be trying to get the baseball out of Braun’s ear.

MLB will look at the "HBP"
Saw today that MLB will look at the pitch that “hit Braun in the head.” Can’t wait to see their press release and the spin they put on looking into a HBP that wasn’t….especially in light of only a $750 find to Jenks who admitted he threw behind (which what you do if you want to hit someone as the hitter’s natural reaction is to back out of the batter’s box and thus into the pitch) Kinsler.
Think with Selig, ex Brewer owner and doesn’t his daughter own or have some high raking position with the Brewers, as commissioner there will be a Brewer bias on what happens to Dempster?
by Rkfd Die Hard on May 12, 2009 6:07 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
The Seligs have no connection with the Brewers any more...
… other than living in Milwaukee. Wendy Selig, Bud’s daughter, was an executive when Bud owned the team, but when Mark Attanasio bought it, the Seligs were divested of all connection with the team.
That pitch didn’t hit him in the head and the video will prove it.
