Should the Cubs consider moving Soriano down while Ramirez is out?

As long as Theriot is getting on base and Fukudome is hitting to fill in #1 and #2 any thought to moving Soriano down to get some power in the middle of the lineup?

No!

How many times does this have to be discussed? Sori doesn’t feel comfortable down in the order. Enough said.

No...

This has been discussed endlessly. You lose production by moving him down. That’s just the way it is.

Someday we'll go all the way...

I'm glad I misread the title.

First time through I read it as “Should the Cubs Consider Moving Soriano While Aramis Is Out?”

Which obviously would have been ridiculous.

I think this is discussed more than Peavy.

and I’m heard about both more than I care to.

You'll have to hear Peavy discussed tonight.

He’s starting for SD.

there is only one answer

NO FKIN WAY!

Leave him alone leading off

baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out

The only reason

The only reason I am saying it now is because we are lacking power in the middle of the lineup with Ramirez out. I am the President of the Don’t Move Soriano out of Leadoff Club 99 percent of the time.

Jay is our Quarterback. I REPEAT JAY IS OUR QUARTERBACK. Did I mention we have a Quarterback who happens to be named Jay?.

Yes, out of necessity Soriano should move down until Ramirez comes back healthy

Soriano is a professional baseball player and will rise to the ocassion. He’s got to do this for the team. The middle of our lineup is putrid without Ramirez and we will struggle mightily to score runs unless Soriano can move down and pick up the run production slack. Which I think he can do.

He's only a true leadoff once a game.

The importance of batting leadoff is blown way out of proportion.

Abso-frakking-lutely.

And we’ve seen how his production goes down when he does (twss). It may be a wee bit prima donna-ish but I want, nay, NEED Fonzie leading off.

BSG Girls = Cubs Win! So say we all.

I don't advocate moving him

but you can’t argue that there will be equal RBI opportunities for him batting leadoff vs. cleanup. The issue is that historically he seems to have underperformed in those situations when batting anywhere other than leadoff . . .

Yes.

That’s why I said blown way out of proportion. But the tradeoff isn’t worth it.

Absolutely!

But only if Lou bats him eighth.

Left-handed.

And has him bunt. A lot.

He could bat 9th on the days Ted Lilly is pitching.

Then Ted can, at last, bat somewhere else.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

Did anyone see the May Heckler?

There was an article titled “Soriano to be randomly placed in batting order-Pinella uses ‘Alfons-o-matic’ device to determine lineup”. I couldn’t find a link, but it was pretty funny. They parody quoted Lou

“Look, I got this thing because I was so tired of answering questions from you guys about where Soriano should be batting,” Pinella said. “This takes all the thinking out of it. Some days he’ll bat fifth, some days first, some days seventh, whatever. We’ll let fate decide.”

They then spin the wheel and it ironically lands on first.

At least nobody here is going crazy and saying move him to 2nd! (Although if he was better at 2nd and Hoffpauir and Lee (Hoff playing left) were both hitting that might be an idea worth pursuing but my dead grandmothers are better at 2nd defensively).

Jay is our Quarterback. I REPEAT JAY IS OUR QUARTERBACK. Did I mention we have a Quarterback who happens to be named Jay?.
