Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

I found this article to be extremely interesting. Not only to see the raw numbers of franchise purchase price vs. current value, but how that translates to wins & losses.

Moreover, I think it's even more interesting to look at the NFL teams. Those owners are making money hand over fist.

Anyway I thought this would lead to some good discussion amongst the BCB community. Hope you enjoy.

Top 5 MLB Owners: (4 out of 5 teams are in the AL)
5: Stuart Sternberg (Tampa Bay)
4: Steinbrenner Family (New York)
3: William DeWitt (St. Louis)
2: Arturo Moreno (Los Angeles of Anaheim)
1: John Henry/Tom Werner/Larry Lucchino (Boston)

Bottom 5:
5: Ted Lerner (Washington)
4: Jeffrey Loria (Florida)
3: David Glass (Kansas City)
2: Tom Hicks (Texas)
1: Peter Angelos (Baltimore)

Interesting

My only changes would be:

- Move Hicks from #2. He does at least try even though nothing has worked. That is better than someone like Loria and Glass who just try to milk the team for whatever money they can get.

- I’d hold off on Sternberg as #5 until I see how he handles all his rising stars. Is he going to sign players like Longoria to long-term deals as teams like the Indians and Twins have tried to do in the past?

Just a quick note...

Longoria signed a long-term deal about 3 days after he was called up last year. It was a 6 year $17.5M deal with two option years that are likely to be picked up to make it an 8 year $36M deal which is an insane steal for the Rays. Absolutely insane!

Does Soriano's defense at 2B really cost more runs than in LF? He makes a lot fewer errors in LF since misplays and mental mistakes aren't figured into the stats, but I have to imagine that his mistakes are more physical at 2B. Any thoughts? Is there a statistic on this?
