Get Dempster the hell outta there early. 1 more inning. He threw 121 pitches last game, and could use a confidence booster of a 1 ER game. The Padres suck, get some of our bullpen some work, too, Lou, and let’s figure out who should be our long relievers and closer help.

If you want to build his confidence, why not let him go 7 or 8, which he hasn’t done yet this year? Then he’ll prove to himself he can do it. The idea is to not use the pen for 3 innings every day. That gets you a tired pen come August.

Heath Bell is a good pitcher. But the Pads have him sit around waiting to close a game when there aren’t any games to close. I don’t think he’s pitched yet this series. I guess we’ll see him today for an inning of work.
