Milton Bradley's Suspension Reduced to One Game
Well, MLB screwed this up, first postponing the announcement for over a week and then trying to save face by unjustly suspending Gameboard for a game. This is obviously a public image move..because they can't completely eliminate the suspension. It would make MLB *gasp* actually admit wrongdoing for once!

Hendry seemed a little up in arms as well with the decision at the presser...
“I don’t agree with it. We don’t think the actions warrant any suspension”
“Milton did very well in stating his case in Houston”

Milton at the press conference:
“Figures….” LOL.
“The ump testified himself I didn’t curse at him. It was a 5 second conversation with him on how the pitches were low”.
“I love Jim Hendry. The most honest, decent GM I’ve ever met. I appreciate his support”.
“I can accept bad calls early in the count, but when there are multiple ones in the whole at bat, I feel like I may be getting picked on a bit”.

He is such a riot
I just get the biggest kick outta that dude.

MB's testimony about Hendry was significant I thought.
People complain about all the player-friendly contracts that are handed out, but I suspect he has developed a reputation that makes it easier for him to get the players he wants to come to Chicago.
Derrek Lee is good.
There is no doubt this is true about Hendry.
It’s not just the big-dollar contracts, either. He treats everyone in the organization well, and it shows in that reputation.

Good history
I think that this was a big thing that was ushered in as Larry Himes was sent packing. Himes treated a lot of players very poorly and had no use for anyone not named Sosa. MacPhail and Hendry after him really have treated players professionally. They have not once gone to arbitration and I cannot recall a player having a bad thing to say about the Cubs front office in at least ten years.
Well...
What sucks is that he has to serve the suspension on Friday. If they would have announced it earlier today before the game, than he could have served it today since he was not playing anyway.

Maybe he did serve it today...?
That would be nice.

Nope, they called Hendry during the 7th inning...
He’ll be out tomorrow.

That's exceptionally weak.
Poor poor judgment by the MLB brass.

that suggests
it wasn’t intentional.

Hendry sounded furious during the press conference
As he should.

Baseball has a zero tolerance policy
When it comes to initiating contact. Hearing that, how many games is Larry Scrieber going to receive for his intentional touching of Magglio Ordonez in last night’s Minnesota- Detroit game. Look it up. Leyland went absolutely nuts about his putting his hands on Ordonez.

i guess we'll see
if the tolerance is zero
or tilted
No
Let’s see who has the more powerful union, the umpires or the players.

not to split hairs
but if there is a ztp,
and the umps union is stronger,
and there’s a ztp,
shouldn’t there be a suspension?
Yes
This is splitting hairs. I’m think if the MLBPA wants to make a stink about this, Bud is going to have to pick one union or the other. Bud likes to keep everyone happy.
Someone is not going to be happy if the MLBPA want to make an issue about this. The umpire clearly initiated contact twice.

Does anyone know where you can hear the post-game press conferences?
I usually her snippets of it through my GameDay audio feed of WGN, but they usually cut out. Is there website that you can stream them? (I haven’t seen anything on Cubs.com, for example)…
Just wondering… :)

not a bad time to give him two days off in a row (today and tomorrow) to keep his wheels healthy
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
Based on the "no tolerence"
the ump who touched Ordonez better be suspended, otherwise it shows that the no tolerence is a one way street

No tolerance isn't a one-way street
Umps have to be able to put hands on players to break up fights.
Umps are authority figures. The rules don’t have to be the same. Teachers and students don’t have the same rules. Neither do parents and children.
NOW, I agree that the ump who touched Ordonez should be suspended a game, because this wasn’t a fight. But I’m a little tired of Magglio and Leyland acting like the ump pistol-whipped Ordonez too.
In no other sport are the players allowed to act like this to the umps/refs/etc.
There is no such thing as an ugly female breast
if a teacher puts a hand on my child
he or she had better have a damn good reason to have done so.
Umps are referees. That does not make them beyond reproach.

How about
Your child is throwing a hissy fit and whining about a homework assignment and won’t return to his or her seat and the teacher directs them to the seat.
Go into the school and throw a fit like Leyland.
But don’t call me when you need bailed out of jail.
There is no such thing as an ugly female breast
then the child
gets sent to the principal. But you don’t touch my child.
There are clearly defined rules, Worf. One of them is no contact. That rule stands for both the players AND the Umps.

not to mention if the teacher writes a report about it
and LIES about the incident. Vanover said that Bradley made contact INTENTIONALLY
Hendry was livid over the decision, saying there was “no intentional contact, as was stated by [Vanover].”

I understand Worf about breaking up a fight, but do not lie about what transpired, and DO NOT push a kid into their seat when they will not move.
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
Fine...then kick them out of school
and let their parents find another school.
I wouldn’t mind arming teachers, actually.
There is no such thing as an ugly female breast
I wonder if you will view this different
the first time a teacher touches your child. Not being rude to you Worf, but how you view this will change then.
I understand about about breaking up fights, but you cannot push a player out of the box, that is out of line if nothing else.
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
No, there are NOT rules against ump contact
Umps are not banned from touching players. They have to be able to do so in order to break up a fight.
The rules are there so players don’t pop someone in the jaw for a call.
NO authority figure has the same rules as those they have authority over. Not in real life and not in sports.
And gently escorting a child to a chair is not a problem. Of course, that’s why no one goes into teaching any longer, because parents sue at the drop of the hat rather than think their little angel might be the problem.

players
aren’t little children.
And if what he did was right, why did the ump apologize?

Because of all the whining
He learned his lesson. Next time, he’ll throw the player out of the game.

At the game
At the game people were speculating they were going to eliminate it but the umps protested.
Jay is our Quarterback. I REPEAT JAY IS OUR QUARTERBACK. Did I mention we have a Quarterback who happens to be named Jay?.
If that were the case...
… someone in management should have told the umpires to stuff it.

Did you hear
about the ump who apologized to magglio ordonez, apparently the ump made contact with ordonez after an argument. How about a suspension for the ump
We Got This!
Justice served for the one game.
He argued balls and strikes, got tossed. Made contact, got a one gamer.
Let Bradley put it behind him and move on with it. This dragged on way too long.
Love most of the quotes from Bradley except for the…I feel like I may be getting picked on a bit". It was a bad call, but the umps make them all the time. They aren’t perfect and their calls aren’t just because of who is in the box. I think his victim mentality drives much of what is wrong with MIlton. Other than that, I still love the guy, just don’t get in the umps face.
Say this much for big league baseball - it is beyond question the greatest conversation piece ever invented in America. ~Bruce Catton
it didn't drag on
because of Bradley. It dragged on because MLB didn’t make a decision in a timely manner.
One more thing Bradley gets blamed for that’s NOT HIS FAULT.

he is correct in this incident
seeing as Vanover (the ump) stated that Bradley made INTENTIONAL CONTACT in his reporting of the confrontation. That is a blatant lie, and anyone who has seen it know it.
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
Such bullshit.
He’s finally in a groove at the plate and then this happens. How in the hell did it take a week to come to this conclusion?
