Until Z Gets Back, I Would....
With the Friday rainout and Monday off-day, I would send Randy Wells back to Iowa on Sunday (if Carlos Zambrano is good after his start and nothing curious happens today). Inform him he will be back up sooner than later.
Then, on Sunday, activate another pitcher (presumably Stevens over Waddell) to help man the pen until Zambrano returns. Use whichever one it is twice before being returned to Iowa, so Lou can get a feel for how they do "when there's a second deck."
This will give us an idea if they can help us, and they get farmed out just before Zambrano's start.
The extra day off decreases the need to use Wells (or anyone else) too soon as a surprise starter.
We should offer Colorado either Jake Muyco, Al Alburqurque, or Henry Williamson {all pitchers at Daytona, none lighting the league on fire} to let us send Patton to AA. I don't think they should expect more than that, since they won't get him back anyway. I'm hoping to hear if I'm offering too much or too little from those more aware of the individuals mentioned.

Yeah...
… I really don’t like how much the team converts pitchers between starters and relievers.
Since Wells is succeeding as a starter, let him continue to hone his skills at AAA when Z comes back.
Always interesting to see
the trade proposals of people here like

two things come to mind about this
1. Does Colorado want any one mentioned
2. Does Colorado want to allow us to move him down. Remember they are in the NL and could be in a fight for the WC with us (not projecting, just saying) and by keeping our hands tied with pattoin, it actually helps other teams since we are technically playing with a short deck.
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
they might not
but they get nada if we release him to waivers or trade him elsewhere.
i’d prefer people floating names instead of floating ideas minus names. the ‘trade aaron miles (for nobody named)’ doesn’t indicate a ballpark figure of value. to me, the banter of trade talk is amusing, as long as all sides know are opinions are just that.
can we trade a Rule V draft pick?
and if we release him, they get him back

you can trade a rule V pick,
but the stipulations remain the same. he must stay on the 25-man all season for a whole season, get traded, or be waived.
if he clears waivers, he is offered back to the originating team for half price. or they can refuse to pick him up, and he can then be sent to the minors.
Well, after today this one's not going to happen.
