cubs bobbleheads

Last tuesday I got my Ernie Banks bobblehead doll and it was beautiful.  I think those commemorative giveaways at wrigley are the best giveaways.  The bobbleheads this year are Cubs legends from their MVP years.  I am disapointed that there's no Ron Santo bobblehead (or Greg Maddux hence the last of the retired Cub jersey).  It's probably because Santo was never the MVP.

I was thinking, next year they should giveaway Cubs broadcasters bobbleheads to make up for the absence of a Ron Santo bobblehead doll for this year.  Wouldn't it be awesome to have a harry caray bobblehead in the mold of him singing the seventh inning stretch?  Or Jack Brickhouse with the hey hey literature at the base of the bobblehead.  Think about it, Ron Santo with a mohawk bobblehead, Pat Hughes, Len Casper, or Bob Brenly.

Maybe our sportsnation can persuade the people that schedule the promotions every year at Wrigley Field to give out Cubs broadcasters past and present (now that I say past I realized I forgot Chip Caray and Steve Stone or for that case Wayne Larrivee) bobblehead dolls.  What do you think?

I find it interesting...

… that of the bobbleheads they are giving away this year, not one is for a current player.

Minor league teams do bobblehead nights several times a year.

I have a wonderful collection of EX-Cubs (and Royals) from the Lugnuts. Felix Pie. Cory Patterson.
Andy Sisco.

Saturday was Carlos Zambrano bobblehead night. Hope that’s not an omen of things to come.

I have almost all Cubs bobbleheads

Minor and Major League. Mainly just missing those given out last year.

Rockford Riverhawks did a nice set that featured Santo and a few others.

When did Wayne Larrivee do Cubs games?

I voted for Brickhouse. His head seemed to bobble in real life.

IIRC...

Wayne was a regular fill-in when Harry had his stroke (whenever a celebrity was not available).

That couldn't have been that often...

…. Harry only missed what, about half the 1987 season? And celebrities did most of the games with Steve Stone.

Anyway, even if Wayne did some games, would he be worthy of a bobblehead?

Wayne did several when Chip/Thom did national broadcasts

also...

(going purely off memory) Wasn’t there a time at the end of Harry’s career that he didn’t travel with the Cubs? I think Wayne filled in for him during that time also.

And to answer your question, No, that is not worthy of a bobble head. Actually although I think a Jack Brickhouse bobblehead would be pretty cool (I really liked the Bricker…and liked him a lot more than I ever liked Harry, who even though he became a cult figure at Wrigley, I never really liked), I don’t think any broadcaster should get a bobblehead.

fill in's for chip caray

wayne would fill in for chip caray in the late 90’s. I was just a kid at the time but from what I can remember I think he just filled in on saturday’s because chip would do the fox saturday games, I think. Al, am I remotely correct?

You should have a selection for "none of the above". I'm not that crazy

about bobblehead figures of broadcasters.

I got a Mark Grace bobblehead

when I went to see the Cubs play the D’backs at Chase Field two years ago. They honored him as their broadcaster.

In Cincinnati at the end of the 2007 season...

… they handed out a bobblehead of Marty and Thom Brennaman. Quite appropriate, I thought.

I have Kip Wells

A reminder of the Cubs/Pirates DH in Pittsburgh in Sept of 03. Best part was going through security at airport the next morning and I got picked for the extra special search thing. Guy pulled Kip out of my bag and looked up at my Cub hat and said " You got a Kip Wells bobblehead and you are wearing a Cubs hat ?". Kip lived in my freezer while he played for the Cardinals.
All you really need to know is that the Pirates were so bad Kip Wells got his own bobblehead.

Living in Pittsburgh I had a nice collection of Pirates bobble heads from going to Cubs games.

Satchel Paige was one. I also got a Roberto Clemente 3,000 hit figurine.

I voted to Steve Stone...

Mainly because i want to kick the head off of it.

My guess is though if they did a Steve Stone booble head, there would have to be a lot of attention to detail on the head seeing that his ego needs to fit in it.

I have an UGLY bobblehead

I have this UGLY bobblehead of Sid Hartman, the local beat writer for the Star-trib, MPLS. It stares at me… I am scared to death of him. 65 years writing fluff about MN sports. Anyone want him?
