I'll be in Boston for Phish at Fenway in a couple of weeks, and i'd love some BCB recommendations on what to do while there. I'm flying in Friday, flying out Monday, the show is Sunday night.
I've never been to Fenway, and i'm excited to spend as much time exploring it and the surrounding area as possible. What bars should i hit? Where should i sight see? Any insider tips from those that have seen games there and know the area?
And how AWESOME are these tickets? So psyched to see a live show at Fenway in addition to working at the Elton / Billy and Rascal Flatts dates at Wrigley this summer.

The Fenway area has plenty of bars to go to
when the Sox are out of town, a place called the Boston Billiards Club used to offer $1 hot dogs and $1 beers.
Also, head down to Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market. There are plenty of bars, shops, restaurants, and you’re by the water. The Freedom Trail runs through there, so if you’re into American history, follow that (in the interest of full disclosure, my friends and I once attempted to “drink” the Freedom Trail our senior year of college. It’s tough.).
If you want to visit a little dive bar, take the C line to Cleveland Circle and visit MaryAnn’s. It’s a dive for all the Boston College students, so you might find some kids spending the summer in Boston there.
Hope this helps.

You are the second vote for Quincy Market...
… so i’ll for sure be checking that out. Thanks!
Tell me more about this drinking of the Freedom Trail… sounds like a possible Saturday afternoon activity.

Well, imagine your ordinary pub crawl with American history sprinkled in.
Here’s a map of the Freedom Trail (it’s a 2.5 mile walk).
If my memory serves, we started our crawl at the origin of the FT in Boston Common, reaching our first bar right by the King’s Chapel and Burying Ground (where Paul Revere and Ben Franklin’s parents are buried, among others) – I think it was the Beantown Pub. Anyways, have a beer there (maybe a Sam Adams, since I think he’s buried in that cemetery, too).
Basically, you will follow the Trail through downtown Boston, seeing historic sights (where the Boston Massacre took place, for instance) – if you walk past an establishment where beverages are served, feel free to stop and have one. Fair warning, if you decide to hit all the bars in the Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market/North Market area, you will be visiting roughly 10-20 bars.
If you make it to the North End, you will have a variety of fine Italian restaurants to eat at and to sample wine. And, if you make it to the USS Constitution or Bunker Hill (whichever you decide to end at), you will have “drank” the Freedom Trail.
Is it mature? Probably not. But when we were seniors in college we thought it was a nice way to cap our college careers.

I'm gonna look in to this a bit more...
… and try to make it happen. Sounds awesome. Thanks so much!

Not a problem.
Have fun at the concert and good luck if you do pursue the Trail.

If you are checking out pubs
you might want to go to the one where the Boston Tea Party was planned. I believe it’s called The Green Dragon. Or you can try Bell in Hand which claims to be the oldest operating tavern in the U.S.

THEY ARE RIGHT.....
The Quincy Market, Bostons North End, The Freedom Trail . Alot to see and do in Boston could go on forever but Boston is a expensive town to visit . Just keep that in mind . There is a Brew Pub close to Fenway Park.. ( Boston Beer Co ) ?? Get a map save yourself some extra steps ……Map out what you want to do …And wear walking shoes..
Those are really cool looking tickets.
I was at Fenway 25 years ago… I know it, and the surrounding area, have been much improved since then. Enjoy!

Part of my excitment in seeing this show at Fenway...
… is hopefully seeing the direction Wrigley and the surrounding area could be headed under new ownership.
Everything i’ve read implies that when new ownership took over in Boston, they did a great job of doing the necessary revenue generating updates to Fenway without ruining the integrity of the park. I assume Ricketts will be doing the same things to Wrigley.

Went to Boston Last Summer
Definitely recommend the Freedom Trail- go all the way out and do the tour of the USS Constitution, it is well worth it. We also drove up to Plymouth and saw Plymouth Rock and took a whale watching cruise that was really cool. While in Boston you have to go to Regina’s Pizza in the North End. You will probably have to wait in line, but it is a Boston standby and was fantastic.
Way back... outta here!!!
Awesome, thanks...
… i’ll add Regina’s to the list.

BTW
If you do go out to Bunker Hill, it is a claustrophobic and fear of heights inducing climb to the top of the monument. It has a nice view and I was glad I went up, but I think it freaked my wife out. Our legs were shot after getting up there, so if you do it plan to take it easy for a bit afterwards.

The USS Constitution was closed for tours the day we went
so we ended up going on a tour of the USS Cassin Young which was right next to it instead. It’s a World War II destroyer. We had a great guide and it was a very moving tour. So if you do go to see the USS Constitution you might want to check that out as well.

Saw Devo and the Tom Tom Club in Boston last summer.
Besides the Freedom Trail which is pretty much a must, we spent a day checking out the witch stuff in Salem and we really enjoyed going on a tour of the Sam Adams Brewery.
PS
If you are into art, I’d recommend the Museum of Fine Arts.

Mmmm... Phish....
Only seen them once, at the start of their 1999 tour, but they do put on a great show! Congrats on scoring the tickets!
