Love his expectations for the Marlins too, haha.

Big Z

I think it’s appropriate for big Z to be tomorrow’s starter because while he is not as good as either of these men he is a complete player as in someone who can field his position and hit the ball too.

Jay is our Quarterback. I REPEAT JAY IS OUR QUARTERBACK. Did I mention we have a Quarterback who happens to be named Jay?.

he also has a longer Cubs career

than the other choices on the roster, so it is fitting

baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out

Actually Marshall would be more fitting

He is the perhaps the last Cub on the roster who was sort of a Maddux protege. I get the impression Maddux was never close to Z though there was no bad blood that I know of just very different pitchers and personalities. Demp he was close to but Marshall and Murton oddly enough where the guys who seemed to follow him around the most though the majority of players who were in the Cubs organization in 06 seem to have at least one good story about his influence or advice to them.

Fergie's being honored, too.

I know you’re biased, but Jenkins had some pretty amazing years for some pretty bad teams. This isn’t all about Maddux today.

The Cubs had winning records....

… all six of the years when Jenkins had those “amazing” years.

I stand corrected...

You quoted “amazing”, Al. Did you not think Fergie put together a pretty good string of years those 6 years? I mean, having 20% of your team’s total victories in 6 years is pretty impressive in my book…..

There's no hidden meaning in quoting that word.

Sorry if I confused you. Yes, that was an impressive run.

Good point

6 or more seasons with over 20 wins…not even the great Bob Gibson compares to that. Not to take anything away from Maddux, but Fergie has deserved this honor for along time. I am just pleased they did something, and the two flags is appropriate. Although I do wish more Cubs fans (in my age group 20s and 30s) were aware of Fergie’s accomplishments.

Last time a Cubs number was retired

(Sandberg) the Marlins were also in town. Happened to be at that game to witness the 14-3 beatdown. Let’s have a repeat tomorrow, Cubs! Go Z!

Your earrings hypnotized me, Sarah. To which I can only add:

James Bond: Do you expect me to talk?
Auric Goldfinger: No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
