Why do we play like we are bored, have no focus and no sense of urgency? Injuries? Last year's result? Superiority complex?
Cardinals beat us by wanting it more and it drives me crazy. What is it?
Do we have no confidence because of the injuries?
Are we bored because we realize postseason is of utmost importance? (Uh, guys we have to win in the regular season to get to the postseason)
Do we think we should beat everyone without having to try at our hardest, conserving ourselves for a long season?
Offense is driving me crazy.....

slumping again
Just for whatever reason this team on offense is all or nothing and thats not a great trait to have but thats who this team is this year. I full expect them to get it going again, but any type of consistency in the future will be appreciated.

It seems that
as Fonzie goes, so go the Cubs.

Feast or famine, folks.
All or nothing. This outfit will never a world series, period. Sure, they’ll get it going at some point, but to expect them all to be hot for the right 19 games in October is asking too much. you can’t win it all with a team like that.

There's room for improvement
And that’s via trade and people improving.
I think the Cubs need to be like the Brewers last year around trade deadline. Do you want to go for it and try to win THIS YEAR or do you start looking for the future. If it’s decided we can’t win and perform in October with this lineup, you build for 2010.
I’m not giving up on the team, it’s just that reedjohnson is being harsh but truthful about the situation and I hate to agree with that statement.

The problem is...
We are putting a minor league infield out there. It is actually painful to watch. Dempster pitched a nice game and we looked terrible. Fontenot has no business at third, Scales is a lifetime minor leaguer, DLee looks like he has past his prime, Soto is a mess.
This team cannot be carried by Sorianno and Dome…you need more. I noticed someone else recommend getting DeRosa back. I say do it tonight. He can play third and would be a huge help on this team. Fontenot and miles can split time at second where he belongs. When Aram gets healthy, Fontenot can come off the bench. I also think perhaps it is time to have DLEE split more time with Hoffpauer. We have no shot at making a run without another #1 starter and a DeRosa. The Miles experiment should be over. The Fontenot as a starter experiment, over. The pain will never end….

Pop psych 101
Professional baseball players have bad days, games etc. They are not BORED or waiting to go to dinner. If they lost 10-8 the post would be why is our bullpen/starting pitching, fielding so bad. Losses like the last two are very frustrating but as I said last year, hitting goes in cycles bad pitching is forever, the Cubs have good starting pitching
the hitters will wake up.

The hitters will wake up?
Really? When? We’re roughly a quarter of the way into the season. It’s getting a bit late to keep using the “it’s early” excuse.

Hitting goes in cycles
Cubs had two VERY bad games re hitting. , they have hit fine in other games and their top hitter in on the DL. Cubs win 5 in a row and all the bandwagon jumpers stay away, 3 losses and they all come back. What a surprise. Team has lots of issues but back to back shut outs is not the sign of players who are “bored” or not trying their hardest.

The notion that they're playing like crap...
because of boredom is stupid, I agree.
But that doesn’t really have anything to do with my post. Point was, I get that people say “oh it’s early” two weeks in. Or three weeks in. But it’s May 21st. To me, “it’s early” is no longer valid because it ISN’T early.
by kanderber on May 21, 2009 8:39 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
But it IS early.
There are 124 games left. That’s more than 3/4 of the season.

BY THE TIME THEY WAKE UP.....
It could be too late . Hope I am dead wrong they have not played like a first class team the last 2 games . Let’s hope they can get back on track tomorrow night .

Of course the Cubs care/“want it”. Sometimes, the other guy wins.

I'd like to know how it was determined
the “Cardinals wanted it more.”
Can you elaborate?

FEAST OR FAMINE
plain and simple, that’s what this team is, and this many games into the season, that’s what they will most likely be throughout the year.
Feast or famine = inconsistent = IMO, a non-contender come September
I pray they find a way to become more offensively consistent.

It's called a slump...
…and unfortunately, several of our hitters are slumping right now. ALL baseball players go through them, both hitters and pitchers. To suggest the team doesn’t want to win, or plays with no sense of urgency is simply nonsense. Just ask David Ortiz, ARod, or Jimmy Rollins what they feel like.
Baseball is a game of ups and downs — Teams just have to hope their ups out-number their downs. RELAX everyone, It’s still May!

I drank some Bud Light, Bud Light Lime, and Rolling Rock Light tonight. If I had to rank them:
1 – BL
2 – BLL
3 – RRL
The Lime is growing on me.

BLL is good...
but it’s still embarassing to admit to liking. I showed up to the golf course last week with BLL and definitely got a few looks. I’ll be bringing Budweiser tonight.

And sometimes, you just have
a bad year. After 2 seasons where things went the Cubs way, save for the post-season — it’s not happening right now. You miss two opportunities — the window may close.
But, unless the Cubs are 10 games back by June, the team can rebound.

Agree.....
That window can slam shut fast….AND you need to keep it w/in at least 6/7/8 by the All Star Break..
The best defense is a good offense.....Lou Pinella...still hasn't managed the Cubs to a post season win. D. Lee still doesn't have a post seasson RBI for Cubs...ditto for Soriano

Apparently it’s driving you there in the short bus.
I’m pretty sure the Cardinals beat the Cubs by scoring more runs.

Yeah the short bus just drove me to see the Cubs get swept by the Cards
Oh, well no big deal. How many runs did THE CUBS score in 27 innings?
Yawn…yeah it doesn’t matter. THE CUBS will be fine….

Yeah, the Cubs failure to score runs over 27 innings somehow makes you right.

Not enough to win any of the 3 games? I’m not disputing that they aren’t scoring enough runs, just that your assertion that it’s because they don’t “want it” is asinine.

Thats usually how games are won...
This team is just a little challenged in the run scoring department

i haven't seen anyone on the bench with the name mmancubfan
.. so how well do you know this team’s “sense of urgency”? How bored do you think the Cubs are? How out of focus? Will you write the next tell all book for the trixies to make an instant best seller?
It’s baseball. It will be fine.
Good night, the panic Cubs fans seem to show here is almost as entertaining as what’s going on in the ball park ..

What's really really scary is....
Fukudome is the best hitter on this team…..(The injured Ramierez does lead in BA slightly)….and Zambrano is quickly getting ready to surpass TheRiot for 5th on the team in hitting…….
Not a division winning recipe…..

36 innings …..2 runs…you gonna come off you purch??
Yeah, I have been a Cub fan alot longer than you and have felt the pain of being one alot longer. I scoff at those who bemean the team when they lose. This is different. This team is full of money pick ups. This team has a manager known to lead champions.
This team is not what I thought it would be. You say what?
