Dusty Going Nutso
In the Cleveland/Cincy game today, something happened I am pretty sure I never saw in Chicago, for better or worse... Dusty threw a full-blown tantrum.
Grady Sizemore hit a triple, pulling Cleveland within 1 run in the top of the 7th. The throw from the outfield appeared to get into the dugout (and would have if not for Gomes backing up the play, all the way from LF). Sizemore saw the throw getting away, and tried to take home. He was called out on a great play at the plate. The play was overruled by 3rd-base umpire Rob Drake, citing Rosales for obstruction of Sizemore at 3rd base.
Dusty did the standard "yell at the ump" routine, but much more animated than he usually appeared during such conversations that I've seen, and on the way back he was taking off his hat and yanking it back down on his head. Then, they showed a clip of him in the dugout throwing stuff around. It seemed so out of character for him.

Dusty threw a substantial fit during...
a game in 2004 or ‘05 when he didn’t clarify a double switch to the plate ump, causing one of the Cubs to bat out of order later in the game & who was subsequently called out. Dusty was really animated during that fit as well, kicking his cap & throwing his lineup card at the umps’ feet. If I’m remembering correctly, it was the game against the Reds that the Cubs eventually tied & won on back to back homers from Sosa & Alou, with Alou’s being a walk-off homer.

Yep. That's the one.
And then he apologized in the press conference because he was ashamed his son had seen it. One of my all-time favorite Cubs games.

That was the ONLY time...
… I ever saw him animated in the four years he was Cubs manager.
This was the game in question, April 17, 2004.

I don't think that's the right link
cause that box score has the Reds winning the game. But I did get a kick outta reading in the PBP about Woody getting pissed at the plate ump and sprinting up to him to complain, then tossing helmets and gloves after getting tossed…ahhh, good times.

You're right.
I had the wrong date. But the Wood ejection was entertaining, all right.

Oh, and incidentally...
… replays showed clearly that Sizemore had his hand on the plate before he was tagged; he was safe anyway.

Drake?
Wasn’t he the clown that threw out Lou when he had his back to him last year? The guy has a giant boner to throw out people. I didn’t think he was a full time ump, last I heard he was a AAA guy getting called up for vacation periods. He needs to stay at AAA.

Dusty
is a game and a half ahead of us.
"Do you want a bunch of duds walking around with their shoulders slumped and having no emotions, no feelings?" Bradley said. "I don’t think the fans want that. I think they want a guy who’s going to get into the game and feel a little bit. I’ve always said, ‘I don’t really play baseball, I feel it.’ "

Dusty has himself an up-and-coming ballclub
Pissing on Dusty is silly. We are staring up at the Reds in the standings, and may be for a very long time as Dusty and his young group of players keep gelling. The Dusty bashers may also want to take note how Dusty does in fact provide opportunities to young ballplayers. That is young ballplayers with legitimate talent.
Awww, come on guys, it's so simple maybe you need a refresher course. It's all ball bearings ...

Baker has no choice in Cincinnati.
His GM traded away all the veterans.
