With this much game left...

I think we’re cursed to a Cotts appearance at some point regardless. Let’s get it out of the way now, where we’ll still have the chance to come back.

Every player on our roster melting down once postseason starts is not lous fault. He can only play the players that showed they could win 90+ games

Well, Waddell is a warm body and in no way am I endorsing Cotts. But Waddell isn’t very good. Actually, John Gaub in AA is probably a better option than Waddell.

Perhaps Cotts and Miles could sit next to each other on the plane out of town.

The 'troll' commentary is classic

You act as if the team is coming off back to back World Series. The team hasn’t won a playoff game in 6 years. The team has spent ALOT of money and every year the excuses get more and more absurd (too many day games, too many right handed hitters, the pressure of the 100 year anniversary, not enough speed…)

The excuses are insulting to fans with have a brain. Yes, there are plenty of teams in this league that don’t make the playoffs three years in a row, but few teams have our payroll and obviously none have our century of futility.

I do not apologize for my critical comments. You sunshine pumpers want to believe that rose colored classes make you more of a fan; every fan deals with disappointment in their own way. Deal with it, ignore it, don’t matter much to me. As long as it ain’t name calling it is a free country so grow up and deal.

I'm not sure what else Lou could do for us...

Jim Hendry traded away DeRosa…which compromised our cover at 3rd when Aramis went down…and tought Miles would ne an appropriate sub.
Jim Hendry signed Milton Bradley. Yeah…put a nutcase in a high pressure situation like Chicago. (His performance tonight notwithstanding).
Jim Hendry let Kerry Wood leave, and traded for Kevin Gregg and Aaron Heilman.

Lou has input, but roster construction falls on Hendry…

The "Try Harder" Argument (my take)

I think an individual can “try harder” with respect to continually trying to improve upon his weaknesses and strengthen his overall skill set. Taking infield before a game to improve fielding, cutting down on one’s swing and becoming more selective at the plate, developing other pitches, becoming a smarter baserunner, and so on.

Gritting one’s teeth ala Charlie Brown won’t magically transform a poor player into an All-Star, but improvement borne of a desire to shore up deficiencies is possible.

Zambrano is a good hitting PITCHER

but remember he is the pitcher. When there are guys on late in the game, pitchers buckle done and are more likely to work the corners, or go off the plate. Z has never shown the shown the plate discipline to be a hitter in those situations.

by Ryanocm1 on May 25, 2009 10:05 PM CDT reply actions

Exactly...

I posted earlier…Z’s career average is .239. Is that great for a pitcher? Sure, but if he was Lenny Harris you’d be slating him. The roster construction this year is a disaster, and I will support anyone that wants to challenge Jim Hendry’s ability to be a GM.

Cubs By The Numbers

Cubs By The Numbers is a history of the ballclub by uniform number, but the biographies help trace the history of our beloved team in a new way. For everyone who's a Cubs fan, anyone who ever wore the uniform is like family. Cubs By The Numbers reintroduces readers to some of their long-lost ancestors, even ones they think they already know.
