Pedro Martinez

The Cubs probably have no interest, but IMO Pedro Martinez could really help the Cubs pitching. He could be the 5th or 4th starter, with Randy Wells becoming the Cubs "6th starter" and work in the bullpen. Sean Marshall would be the much needed LHP the Cubs need in the bullpen.

A Carlos Zambrano,Ryan Dempster,Ted Lilly, Rich Harden, and Pedro Martinez starting rotation would make the Cubs pitching even better.

I like him batting cleanup….hopefully he and Sammy have the same trainer

If Pedro

would come out of the pen, he could be of use possibly. Him or Ben Sheets (if he is able to throw this season)

I'd agree with trying Pedro out of the pen.

He wouldn’t be of any use as a starter. But maybe he has enough to throw an inning three or four times a week.

question there is at what cost

how much and how many years would he want? I would not mind offering Sheets a contract like we did Dempster when he was rehabbing, and see what happens.

Cost for Pedro

I’ve heard he wants $3 million a year plus incentives, which is down from the $5 mil a year he wanted.

It'll keep coming down if he continues to sit at home.

If Sheets is going to pitch this year

SI says it’ll be with the Rangers.

Sheets has great stuff, but he’s already hurt. Don’t we already have that guy?

by Allie on May 25, 2009 3:45 PM CDT up reply actions

we also had two of that guy when we signed Dempster

and let him rehab before making him the closer for two seasons.

I'd love Pedro as a closer

Bring him in and have him close out the game. Who cares what it costs.

Couldn't agree more.

Too bad Pedro’s ego doesn’t.

Is his a reliever or RBI machine?

I don’t think you realize what the Cubs biggest problem is right now but interesting suggestion.

by ak123 on May 25, 2009 4:44 PM CDT reply actions

Hmmmm....

IF he has anything left, and would pitch from the bullpen, I think he’d be worth a shot.

by TheHawkRules on May 25, 2009 5:34 PM CDT reply actions

Don't need him...

Randy Wells is better than Pedro Martinez at this point in their respective careers. Period.

Ladies and gentlemen! It's 1985 all over again, but this time the offense goes to hell!

by Ross on May 25, 2009 5:51 PM CDT reply actions

No

Stick a fork in Pedro because he is finished. The shoulder is no longer healthy enough. Nobody has inquired about his services because he’s lost 7-8 MPH on his fastball and his slider comes in like batting practice pitch. Plus there is the steroid cloud hovering overhead.

Awww, come on guys, it's so simple maybe you need a refresher course. It's all ball bearings ...

by BLou on May 25, 2009 6:35 PM CDT reply actions

WOW

BLou says no, which makes me want him more, since that probably means Pedro can help the club

Can Pedro pitch left handed

I say sign Pedro with the understanding that he begin a career as a situational lefty. Think about it….he has never thrown a pitch left handed so the shoudler is strong and healthy. And no matter the results he can’t do any worse than the present situational lefty, Cotts.

Hope someone at least smiled….watching Cotts give up another HR to a lefty….so needed to have a laugh.

I was thinking about your post

and I just saw the brilliance in it. NO ONE has a scouting report on Pedro the lefty. What a huge advantage, make it happen!

Is he ambidextrous?

p.s. I <3 Cotts.

Yes, yes.

Let’s run screaming in desperation to washed-up veteran pitchers with sexy names to try and save a team that can’t score runs with consistency.

Thanks for including a picture so we know which Pedro you’re referring to.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

Glave?

I would love to see a hitter try and get a piece of that, even if we keep losing at least the games would be more interesting :)

haha that's what I do...

and it’s an idea, give Cotts one of those too and I bet it would lower the amount of walks he issues, hitters would wanna get out of there so bad :)
