by nji232 on May 26, 2009 10:25 PM CDT up reply actions

I have to admit, I haven't watched more than 50 NBA games since Jordan left...

…but I really feel as if the refereeing dictates the outcome of the game more than any player. It’s both very frustrating for players, and completely deflates the momentum of gameplay.

"The riches of the game are in the thrills, not the money." --Ernie Banks

by dtpollitt on May 26, 2009 10:23 PM CDT reply actions

Not to sound like a homer...

but I know it impacted the Blazers/Rockets. Both sides were unhappy with the schizo way the refs would call contact fouls between Yao and the Blazers centers. No one ever knew what was a foul and what wasn’t. Totally arbitrary.

by CubsWin!Oregon on May 26, 2009 10:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Which is part of the problem

A foul in the first isn’t a foul in the third. I understand letting more stuff go in the last minute, but the rules apply to everyone.

Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

by nji232 on May 26, 2009 10:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh, I agree.

I think regardless of circumstance if it’s a foul, it should be called. My point about Howard was just that I don’t think any ref would ever decide a series by calling incidental contact with .5 sec left. Whether that’s right or wrong is another thing.

by CubsWin!Oregon on May 26, 2009 10:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I really dislike the NBA rule...

with a timeout giving you the ball at half-court. It doesn’t make any sense to me at all, other than to encourage more exciting last second plays. But it’s kind of cheap marketing, not because it makes sense based on the rules of the game. It’d be like getting a timeout in baseball that automatically gives you a runner on third.
