Mid-term report card for Jim

Stay connected for news and updates

I noticed last night that K-Wood has 8 saves, Gregg 7.  Neither of them have extremely impressive stat lines, but suffice to say we have not upgraded at closer.  Our bullpen certainly does not seem as good as last year.

The combination of Fonty, Miles, and Freel is just flat out bad.  I'm all for scrappy guys, but you've got to at least hit above the Mendoza line.  Toy man is hovering around that mark too, but at least he shows some signs of coming out of it and has a better track record on which to base that.

Did we really have to become more left handed?  We had a mashing team last year, and they lost 3 games in a row in the playoffs, but was it solely b/c we were right handed?  I think not.  I'm missing DeRosa, and a few injuries show just how weak our bench/utility players are.  Like it or not - we need DeRosa.  Even with a slow start, DeRo is now hitting .266 with 8 HR.

I love guys who hustle and play the game right, but you cannot fill the bottom tier in your order with Mendoza line/Neifi like hitters and expect to win.

Jim, if you are the great GM, find a way to make something happen and get us some players that can at least hit their way out of a wet paper bag.
