Zambrano Update
It says that Z may miss his next start. Not the greatest news, but could be worst.

Seems like wishful thinking
We won’t know anything until tomorrow. But, if life has taught me anything whenever I’ve broken/sprained/pulled anything it is worse the next day once the adrenaline or drugs wear off. I was originally hoping it was a cramp, which Z has had issues with before in his right forearm. Today Z gets some treatment on the leg, we’ll see how it is after they check it tomorrow and it has had all night to stiffen up on him.

baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out

maybe
although that’s less of an issue with Z. We’ll know what he’s doing based on if he does any throwing at all in the next few days. He can’t just jump into the lineup like Rami.

How many injuries do the Cubs need to have
before they use the DL?
seeing Harden on 3rd last night representing the tie run with D Lee up made me nervous as crap. I had visions of a long fly, Harden tagging up and a huge collision at home with Harden limping off the field.
i know Harden is an athlete but he is also the most fragile pitcher we have.
Even thought that turned out great thanks to DLee’s granny that whole sequence had disaster all over it.
Call up an infielder and DL somebody!

You mean it could be "worse" not "worst."
And I’m not even sure that makes sense, because we still don’t know what’s wrong with Z. So it could be “worse.” Obviously, I hope it’s not. I’d just like to know which Triple A pitcher will get the cup of coffee to take Z’s start. Mitch Atkins?

I wonder if Shark has been doing any work on the side
it would be nice if hes been continuing to stretch out his arm so that he could be the swingman and fill in for Z if need be

I would rather see Heilman get a start.
He was great in Spring Training and seemingly transitioned that success into the pen. I think he’s due for a start.

of course
if Heilman starts, and he gets into trouble, we won’t have Heilman available to go long late in the game. :P

you mean
Heilman cannot relieve Heilman?
I bet if he drinks a lot of Old Style he can.

I don't think Fully K is due for anything...
…besides staying put in the pen, where he’s been one of the team’s only relatively consistent relievers. I guess if they can somehow stretch out the Shark over the next week, that would at least be, um, interesting.

can you stretch someone out
that fast?
Maybe you go into it thinking “ok, we’re going to use Shark for four innings, Heilman for three or four, then Guzman if possible, otherwise, Mamol and Gregg.”
Or maybe they give Cotts that shot he’s looking for. o.0

Y'know, if I'm not mistaken...
…there was some talk of converting Cotts into a starter in…I wanna say ’07? Anyone else remember that? Hey, I kinda doubt he has the endurance at this point, but maybe he needs an inning or so to get his control together to pitch effectively.
In any case, yeah, your scenario of Samardzija going four innings or so could happen. Patton’s been going two innings, so maybe he could take the fifth and six and then Lou could get creative from there.

maybe
they’d have to be very careful to keep SOME of the pen for the next game at least. I wish they could figure out how to schedule it before an off day, although that’s not for another seven games.

It depends on whether he's still stretched out from before the call-up...
If he’d been in the bullpen all spring, it’d take 2-3 starts to build him up for starting duty. But perhaps he can be ready more quickly since he was a starter all spring and has only been in the bullpen for a week or two.

I think a lot depends on how many starts they expect it to be as well.
Jay is our Quarterback. I REPEAT JAY IS OUR QUARTERBACK. Did I mention we have a Quarterback who happens to be named Jay?.
