I'm happy for Wuertz
but I don’t miss him. The guy that we had couldn’t put up those kind of numbers. He was a walks and hits machine with just one pitch.

And Howry
And Eyre.

Murton's doing ok
And Pie is hitting better than Cedeno. That’s something, right? :P

I liked "Big Red"
I don’t think he was given a chance here, so it’s good that he finally playing regulary now

Is Murton starting for the Rockies now?
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

Not even close
He starts maybe once a week and pinch hits here and there. There was actually a rumor at one point of the Red Sox being interested. Not like he would start there but it would be an improvement.

How about Marquis...
…being tied w/ Johan Santana for the NL lead in wins! An ERA around 4 is VERY respectable in Colorado.

Marquis has been good
Remember he’s always been stereotyped as a first half guy. We’ll see how he does this year.

AND
He is one bad outing away from having his ERA at the level it was with the Cubs. I say saving the 6 million was worth it.

Even though that 6 million was for MB?

Yes
Just like Marquis will inevitably regress to his career numbers, Bradley will progress to them.
I realize a lot of fans here are cheering for him to fail, but it’s just a matter of time before he starts crushing the ball like he does.

Wuertz trade
Wuertz was traded for two guys, one of which has since been released and the other traded for PTBNL. So I take it Hendry didn’t think much of his trade value and just wanted to get rid of him.
by Luis on May 30, 2009 7:36 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
My guess is that...
It was probably heavily influenced by Lou, but either way Wuertz didn’t perform well enough here. He walked too many guys. Which, to Lou, is the cardinal sin. Sure would be nice to have him rather than Heilman or Patton though.

rather then Patton, Ascanio, or Heilmann

You never know
How these guys would play in Chicago this year so the woulda, shoulda, coulda is redundant. It’s safe to assume DeRosa would be hitting solid but everyone else you never know. I mean Howry and Eyre have rebounded nicely and you never know how someone like Cedeno or Pie might be playing if they were batting every day.
Shame that Gallagher isn’t doing so well.

and in a Cubs uniform
who knows what any of them would be doing. Each one of the above players are playing:
- in a different home park
- for different coaches and managers
- with different teammates
- in different divisions

What did we trade for Wuertz again?
Whatever we got back, it wasn’t nearly enough. As for Marquis, meh, we had one starter too many and still do with Wells’ emergence. As good as he’s been, I would rather have Marshall, who’s been just as good and is much younger and cheapter.
by Poloplaya14 on May 30, 2009 8:52 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
at this point we don't even have the guys we got for Wuertz anymore
If he keeps this up the A’s got a steal, if he goes back to the Wuertz we all knew and loved, no big loss.
Robbie Robnett has been released and Justin Sellers was traded to the Dodgers for cash.

at least we haven't dealt the PTBNL
we got for rich hill (not on list) or rocky roquet yet.
oh yeah, we haven’t completed them yet.

The PTBNL for Rich Hill
is apparently dependent on his performance. So we may not get that player for a while.

Don't look now...
…but Rich Hill isn’t looking so bad for the O’s. Yesterday, he had his best start yet – 7 IP, 0 ER, 7 K and, yes, 3 BB. Still, he appears to be keeping the walks under control. Interestingly enough, Baltimore has won every game Rich has started thus far.

perhaps
the PTBNL should be Hill himself. :P

Let's see.
Two mediocre starts, one bad one and one good one. If a Cub pitcher had done that after a callup, many here would be screaming, “DFA! DFA!”
12 walks in 21 innings isn’t very good, either.

Yeah, but 22 Ks is.
I’m definitely not calling him an unmitigated success, but he’s hanging in there. I don’t want him back or anything either. But it’s interesting to watch his progress.

At some point it doesn't matter
Sometimes guys really just need a change of scenery, and Wuertz may have been one of those guys. Can’t worry about it.

Happens a lot-change of scenery just seems to wake guys up-I always thought that Wuertz had closer-type stuff but it was way too frustrating watching him come and, issue a walk and get pulled.

marquis
we could use those 7 wins.marshall just cant seem to win as many games.no big marquis fan but we should have let him finish his contract out. we pretty much got nothing for him.and were still paying viscaino.im sure mgt is not thrilled paying these guys that are not on the team anymore.

Wins are the most overrated stat in baseball
Do you really think Marquis would have 7 wins with the support of this offense (and I use that term loosely)? Zambrano>Marquis. Harden>Marquis. Dempster>Marquis. Lilly>>Marquis. Marshall>Marquis. Wells>Marquis. That trade saved us $5 million in payroll, which will come in handy at the trade deadline, when teams are going through their fire sales. Just wait and watch as Marquis balloons in the 2nd half like it always does. His career 2nd half ERA is 4.93 compared to 4.22 for the 1st half.

Wasn't it a wash financially?
I thought taking on Vizcaino used up most of the Marquis savings.
