More importantly...
…he says the Cubs’ brass over-reacted to last year’s NLDS sweep

that I'll agree with.

I don't think they overreacted
If they did, then so did every Cubs fan.
They did need to get more left-handed.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt
until I had a chance to see how this team worked. So far it just doesn’t have the same offense, etc. I know we’re injury-ridden, but I still think DeRo brought an enormous amount to play
That was a unique season
You’re not going to win 97 games every year, particularly the way they won some of them.
Standing pat wasn’t the answer. Particularly after what happened in the postseason. If Hendry was obsessed with lefties, so is every GM in baseball.
DeRosa was the most expendable player in their starting lineup. If he’s so great, why can’t he stick with a team? Why is Cleveland looking to deal him?
And this team still is a work in progress. What you’ve seen the first two months isn’t necessarily what you’ll see later, if everybody plays to their averages.
by Not Bruce Froemming on May 31, 2009 9:44 PM CDT up reply actions
I get your point
but I think some fans’ DeRo obsession is worse than Hendry’s lefty obsession.

why use Marmol when we are down by 6
he is being way overused but I guess there arent many people left in the pen
*Sigh*
He’s not being overused. He needs regular work to stay sharp.
by Not Bruce Froemming on May 31, 2009 9:45 PM CDT up reply actions
He needs to be IN EVERY GAME????
So his arm can fall off. He has been used twice in the last four games. That is not regular enough ? He needs to come in with the Cubs down by six and throw a shit load of pitches ?

Is he in every game?
I think the hyperbole fairy is affecting you, DS.
Twice in four games ain’t exactly excessive.
by Not Bruce Froemming on May 31, 2009 9:53 PM CDT up reply actions
Twice in four games is fine
but you claimed he was put in NOW to because he needed “regular” work, I was pointing out he WAS WORKING regularly and this 22 pitch scary outing is NOT going to help him. He was in twice in four games BEFORE tonight so explain to me why he needed to be put in ?

Maybe if he came in Tuesday
in a tighter game, his appearance would be much more scary if he didn’t come in tonight and work out kinks.
And look, Gregg’s in in an 8-2 game. Are you complaining about that?
I don’t care for Steve Phillips, but he just gave the logic for it.
by Not Bruce Froemming on May 31, 2009 9:59 PM CDT up reply actions
Did a great job working out the kinks
I would not trust Steve Phillips opinion if he said the Sun rises in the east.

Cubs players greets Japanese audiences

Sori smiles as he says “I forgot most of Japanese words!”.
He played for Hiroshima Carp for 1996-97.
I was gonna ask how his Japanese was holding up :D

Carp story
I was in the Tokyo subway with my wife and I saw a little boy with what I thought was a Cubs cap on.
I say ‘hey Cub fan!’ to the slightly confused kid.
My wife mumbles some apologetic words to the boy’s mom and later corrects me: ‘Dummy, that was a Hiroshima Carp cap.’
It should be red cap...
as Carp imitates their outhits from Reds….
