He's not that bad

But he’s not good either. So far, he’s been way, way overrated, like most, if not all of Hendry’s draft picks.

Me too...

Kind of pissed at Hendry for this. He went to watch him pitch that AAA game and was Convinced he was ready to come back here. SInce, he’s pitched like garbage and the let a guy go.

well ...

he did allow the first two men to get on base. He and Shark are both to blame, really.

by elgato on May 5, 2009 3:25 PM CDT up reply actions

I do think so

From what I could tell he made one mistake on one pitch to a single batter… other than that he was pretty spectacular given the team that was in support of him, with 3 players effectively playing out of position (4 if you count Dome, but he played RF last year, so I don’t). I think Sean deserved more in this start than a cheap loss…

Wow

I’m wondering if you guys truly know anything at all about baseball or would simply prefer to discount the opinions of everyone else if they don’t happen to conform to your often flawed logic. Ranting? Hardly. Expressing a dissenters opinion at the idiocy of today’s lineup, absolutely. I realize most of the entries on message boards end up being conclusatory based on a lack of reading comprehension but even so, ranting? That’s just silly.

Say what you want, if you guys like this lineup and believe it has any merit whatsoever, maybe you should petition for it to be brought out monthly. The fact of the matter is, just as you have suggested, it’s May. It’s early and despite NBF’s assertion that somehow playing the regulars today would consist of “riding them hard” perhaps you should take a look at exactly what the regulars would have been asked to do today. Take 4 AB’s, jog or walk out to their positions and otherwise stand around and do nothing. Wow, that’s brutal. If you don’t believe that is the normal routine, sit and watch a game once. No, really…watch a game without commercials getting in the way and detail exactly what they do over the course of 3 hours, sitting in the dugout in between innings of course. If you think that is “riding them hard” you’re out of your mind.

Good managerial move? Hardly. I’ll back off it being one of the “worst” moves in decades but as far as Piniella is concerned, it was hardly his best day.

I don’t want supposed feel good stories about guys that belong toiling in the minors for a reason. I want the Cubs to take hold of this division, in April, May, August, I don’t care what month. Today, that was not going to happen with the lineup thrown out there. To suggest otherwise is just plain fantasy.

Who needs a stinkin' tag line? What are they for anyway?

YOU. ARE. NOT. DISCUSSING.

ANYTHING…You are complaining, and you, BoVandy, Dylan Satan, etc., etc., have been doing it ad nauseum today. Some of you declared this game over before it even started, and then were “nice” enough to stick around and continue to complain. If you were so dissatisfied, why even watch? You know when people complain about fair weather fans? Do you even wonder who they may be referring to? No? BECAUSE YOU’RE ONE OF THEM. If there was ever an example of a reason to ban people from these things, you, and a whole lot of others are it. This is the end of your “discussion”.

by Craig in South Bend on May 5, 2009 4:17 PM CDT up reply actions

….elgato’s asking a legitimate question that WILL be discussed about this game. And he gave a scenario that might have worked better, in his eyes. I’d hardly call it bitching more than trying to have a discussion with NBF.

by carmen_fanzone on May 5, 2009 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Overreact? No.

I’m just frustrated at seeing the same complaint be voice over, and over, and over again by the same group of people. Then, when you call them out on it, they use the “just ignore it” excuse, except this isn’t a message board. It’s not like I can just choose to not read one thread in a forum because this site doesn’t behave like that. It’s one large discussion that kept being de-railed with complaints and bitching by the same group of knuckleheads. I can appreciate any type of constructive criticism or discussion that may go on, but throughout this whole game, even before it started, you had the same people saying the game was over before it started and complaining the whole way through, as if they wanted the team to lose. It’s almost enough to not even want to come back. The whole idea behind these things is to say what you would in a normal conversation with other people, and I can guarantee that 90% of the people here wouldn’t stick around if 10% of the rest of the group kept moaning and groaning non-stop.

by Craig in South Bend on May 5, 2009 4:26 PM CDT up reply actions

It's a sprint, y'know.

1 out - I'm heading home

Have a good night, all. We’ll get ’em tomorrow.

Yes and No...

He gave up a 3 run homer, put the first 2 guys on in the 8th and they only scored 2 runs. Granted the lineup wasn’t what it usually is but there is no saying the others would have fared that well vs Tiny Tim.

Yes.

The 2 guys on base when he gave up the homer would not have been on base if there was a real 3rd basemen in the game.

And we know pitching is all about confidence- how are you helping Sean’s confidence by trotting out that bootleg lineup to back him up? And vs one of the best pitchers in baseball none the less?

was awaay for a bit

score?

Loss 6-2

If the world didn't suck we would all fall off.

by carolinacub on May 5, 2009 4:00 PM CDT up reply actions

Don't like losing

but we got to see Bobby Scales play his first ML game. He did ok too.

by sue369 on May 5, 2009 4:01 PM CDT reply actions

Not only that

but the backups hung in there for most of the game, and Sean did an alright job too. You can’t win em all, but if you can at least play like they did in this losing effort, at least up until being down 6-2, then there’s quite a bit to learn and hopefully we’ll see better stuff from them all in the future.

Let's be realistic

Despite all the complaining, this lineup did just fine. Marshal melting down late and Shark not showing up is the difference. Otherwise it’s a 3-2 game. No shame in that.

by chitownhawkeye on May 5, 2009 4:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes, Sean did

ok too. Hopefully he’ll get a win soon.

by sue369 on May 5, 2009 4:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Scales is a beast

Lets trade him for….PEAVY!

Sorry… had too

Anyway, Nice debut for him.
