The worst Chicago Cubs' 7th-inning stretch singer?
We briefly discussed this today while a couple of Bears players made us cringe... amusing slide show of former 7th-inning stretch singers who were not great.

The worst singer...
… was Mike Ditka, with Ozzy Osbourne a close second.
The biggest loser was Jeff Gordon (“Wrigley Stadium”).

I was never sure...
… if i should be disappointed in Ozzy, being that his job is to stand in front of thousands and sing, or just be happy his fried brain remembered a good portion of the words.

The difference between Ozzie and such and Ditka is it made sense for Ditka to be there. He is a Chicago icon and also is a Cubs fan (He really impressed me with how well he knew the team in the radio/tv interviews when he sang. I’ve also seen him at the park quite a few times. He and Santo are also close friends).

Ditka
Ditka’s second one was good though so he sort of redeemed himself.

We've been treated to some doozies this homestand
Jeff Gordon deserves to take the throne on this one.
One day I hope to come up with something worthy of this space.

Nevermind
I just figured it out with help of the Trib.
I ask for your forgiveness in advance and thank you for your understanding.

No worries.
Since that was in fact in the Tribune today, it’s certainly worth a fanshot for discussion.

I actually caught wind of it...
… on the Trib’s Twitter feed, only minutes after we endured the Bears players giving their rendition. Seemed worthy considering it was both discussed in today’s game thread and on the Trib’s website this afternoon.

I'd have to say that Denise Richards...
was the worst in recent memory. Just awful.

I think there's been 2 worse SINCE....
…which is really sad.

Bill O'Reilly put her on his pinhead segment
for her singing of the 7th-inning stretch.
Doh, I just admitted to watching O’Reilly, but I mainly watch it because I disagree with him so much.

Don't deny watching him
the pinheads and patriots segment is dead-nuts-on every time.

While I know simply discussing O'Reilly isn't political...
… he is a polarizing figure. I think we should stop discussing him.

Listening to her sing (and worse her interview on the radio)
Made me think that this tradition has run its course.

OZZY DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE............
What was WGN thinking when they even asked OZZY ?? At least the coach is a Cubs fan…..And we can give him a pass for his singing …..But yes Jeff Gordon and Denise Richards left me wondering…. Would I be that Bad ????

A TOTAL DISGRACE......
Is all I can say about OZZY trying to sing it ….He did not even appear to be aware of what was going on,,,

Bears lineman today were this season's worse so far...
…and that’s saying a lot considering the “quality” we’ve had this homestand.
Ozzie’s the all time worst.

I dunno, it depends on expectation.
I don’t expect singing from lineman, Ditka, Jeff Gordan, thought the scoreboard called Garza a “Lineback” during the ceremonial first pitch.
Denise Richards was on the radio her day saying she was an actress, model, singer. When anyone declares themselves a musical artist (Ozzy, Christmas Jones, etc.) they shoot to the top of the list in my book. I should add Mongo as well as he was drunk and disorderly.
if this was still new to me, i wouldn't understand

It's a little late for that, don'tcha think?
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

I went to a game last year
Where two guys from Fall-Out Boy sang the stretch. They could also be on this list. They were off-key, and somehow got a note ahead of the music coming from the speakers.

Guest Conductors Not Needed Every Game
Okay, I like having a lot of guest conductors for “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”, but there doesn’t need to be one for every home game at Wrigley Field. Too often, we get guest conductors who don’t have any real connection or feeling for the Cubs. For some games, just have the song played on the organ.

It is past due time to KILL the 7th inning stretch celebrity thing
Just play Take Me Out to the Ballgame on the friggin organ already. Do we really need to hear a procession of celebrities and athletes tout their latest project and listen to Len Kasper try to make conversation with somebody for a 1/2 inning? NO !!!!
The concept should have died with Harry Caray.
The window for winning a World Series may have waned.

Ron Santo Should Sing It Every Day
Funny the way it is, how a kid walks ten miles to school while another is dropping out

Or just play the organ and let the fans sing it!
Pretty sure everyone knows the words…or at least should.

the person isn't there to help everyone with the words
I know the days I’ve gone to Wrigley and Santo has sang stand out above other games. Its just icing on the cake

I'm thinkin
It would be kind of taxing on an already frail Santo to expect the poor guy to belt out “Take me out to the Ballgame” every home game. Heck it would be taxing for almost anyone to do it everyday. I like your enthusiasm for Santo, but I think it would be best to do as others have suggested; play it on the organ — maybe let Santo, Williams, Jenkins, et al. sing it once or twice a year as a special treat from someone who has something to do with the Cubs organization, that would be icing on the cake.

One of the worst
that I can recall was Nancy Kerrigan. She sang several years ago and while she sang the song with the proper note intervals as far as I can remember, she was about a step flat, which was excruciating.

Total babe of a body, couldn't sing that song.
Stage fright? Couldn’t be; wasn’t she on idol a couple years ago?

Her singing wasn't terrible, but
she messed up the words a little. “Buy me some popcorn and Cracker Jack”. Pat Tomasulo on WGN Morning News skewered her later that week – not so much for the singing, but the clueless interview with Len & Bob in the bottom of the 7th. It left the impression she had never seen baseball before.

I'm wondering why
the Trib put Santo as one of the worst? I always think he does a good job when he sings it..

Jimmy Kimmel had a segment on the Richards rendition...
He sent her audio through an auto-tuner and it still sounded horrible

The Jeremy Piven debacle
was pretty awkward. Gordon still tops out as the worst for me. You’re telling me you can’t spend 5, 10 minutes at most beforehand to make sure you at least achieve some semblance of competency? You are invited to an American landmark by arguably the most storied franchise in sports and you can’t be troubled to get the name of the ballpark correct? Ugh. So bad. I never cared for Jeff Gordon to begin with but that s*itshow sealed his fate in my book.
I would love for Ronnie to sing every day but it seems like this is a potential arrangement that should’ve been made years ago. At this point, it might be too late.
And on the sixth day, God created Joakim Noah...
