Chad Fox Recalled, Jeff Samardzija Optioned To Iowa

Via Gordo's Twitter. Chad Fox has had more baseball lives than... well, just about anyone in recent years.

Wow.

I guess this means Bobby Scales goes back down Friday, unless they make a decision with Gathright.

I like Shark going back, but Chad Fox? Better than Kevin Hart, I guess.

Yeah, I guess.

Jeff Stevens would probably have been a better choice.

Probably, but Stevens has been walking a bunch of guys

Point taken.

OTOH, he has allowed only four hits in 13 innings with 13 strikeouts.

Scales

I don’t see how this impacts Scales one way or the other. With David Patton being on this team, the bullpen is going to be 7 guys, at least until Patton shows some consistency and convinces Lou that he can be used more than twice a week.

yup...

I know that. But the fact remains that this move, Samardzija for Fox, has no baring on the pending move with Wells. The Cubs were not going to shed a reliever for Wells, unless it was Patton. Come Friday, unless another position player goes on the DL, Scales or Gathright is gone.

I vote for Gathright.

can Gathright

be sent to AAA? I’m thinking not.

I think he'd have to clear waivers first.

TwitterMeyer also now says that DLee is out because of his bulging disk in neck

flaring up again. I still think he should have rested yesterday with all the other regulars.

Samardzija

The organization needs to decide what they want to do with him… is he a starter or a reliever? Just decide and let it be. Personally I’d like to see them let him start and exhaust that avenue. Let him start until we know he’s not a starter. But jerking him between starter and reliever likely did not help him. Let him go to Iowa and focus on one thing.

I think he has to be stretched out to start...

… and work on his 2nd and 3rd pitches. He probably shouldn’t be back till September.

Agreed.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

and thats fine...

time to thing long term, too. Starters are more valuable than relievers, so lets see if that is a possibility. Come September who knows what will be happening w/ the rotation, whether its Harden or Marshall or anyone. Even if this means we don’t see Samardzija until 2010, they should do that.

by dmlichte on May 6, 2009 4:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Stevens would have been a better choice

but Fox is pitching well lately. But the Shark needs to be starting. He never should have been promoted in the first place if he wasn’t going to the rotation.

and he can't even hit lefthanded.

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

and he's atrocious

at bunting.
