Reason #1920

Why the All-Star game is a pathetic joke and I am not going to be watching.

Just curious

What is Reason #1919?

Movement to make Jeff Samardzija our closer!

as a Cubs fan

with hopes that the Cubs are in the World Series, why would i want to vote for a shitty NL player to be in the ASG? That would make little to no sense towards home field being at Wrigley.

baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out

I would typically agree with you...

but it would be too hilarious for a AAA player to play in the All-Star game.

This is hilarious.

Just goes to show you how messed-up the whole All-Star thing is.

Does this mean we could elect Jake Fox?

Or maybe Bobby Scales? Too bad Les Walrond isn’t still around.

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

anyone can be a write in

hell, Mike Schmidt was elected to start at 3B the year after he retired (not sure if he was on the ballot or was a write in).

has a write in even been voted to start?

Not quite

Schmidt was elected to start at 3B in 1989 — he retired at midseason, before the All-Star game was played. He was on the ballot.

meant to say year of

he retired that May and was still elected, but not as a write in.

I was not aware of Garvey, as you mention below, making it as a write in.

The Wikipedia page I found that info on...

… says Garvey was “one of two” who made it as a write-in. I cannot recall the other one.

In answer to your other question...

… Steve Garvey was elected to start the 1974 ASG as a write-in.

I think he's pushing Lastings...

because he is actually ON the ballot, not even needing a write-in.

Nobody gives a crap about the All-Star game

The only mild intrigue is the quest for World Series home field advantage. Which really isn’t much of a quest in my humble view.

The window for winning a World Series may have waned.

Don't feed the troll.

“Boteman” looks like an SBnation spammer to me. We’ll do our best to ruin the AL squad, thankyouverymuch.
