Ramirez

The only hope is he fell on it really hard and jammed it. But I have a horrible feeling about this.

Jay is our Quarterback. I REPEAT JAY IS OUR QUARTERBACK. Did I mention we have a Quarterback who happens to be named Jay?.

by puckishcubsfan on May 8, 2009 8:05 PM CDT reply actions

only thing that is a ray of hope is that it is his left arm....still, i did that in old man, slow pitch softball

dove at SS for a ball, gloved it, and rolled over on the ball, broke my hand….took a surgery and 8 weeks to heal, plus longer to get it back into shape.

by Zakh on May 8, 2009 8:07 PM CDT up reply actions

Why

Why do these injuries always happen when its a night game the next day so we have to wait all day tomorrow until definitive word most likely.

Not trying to understate

Just didn’t want to try and act like I was a doctor or anything.

With that said, I’ll try and act like a doctor. My hope is a hyper-extension. It didn’t look immobilized like you get with a dislocation and I’m just hoping it wasn’t a separation. From my experience, a dislocation results in a lot more writhing. Maybe you guys remember when Dwayne Wade dislocated his shoulder during a game and he was almost crying on the sidelines a year or two ago.

As far as separation vs. hyper-extension, its just wishful thinking on my part.

To save everyone the trouble...

from wikipedia…
A dislocated shoulder occurs when the humerus separates from the scapula at the glenohumeral joint. As the most maneuverable joint in the human body, the shoulder is the joint most vulnerable to dislocation. Approximately half of major joint dislocations seen in emergency departments are of the shoulder. Partial dislocation of the shoulder is referred to as subluxation.

I remember in the 90s someone going down with I think the :Phillies and them calling the Cubs people over.

Also the Home team’s doctors usually will see someone right away since the visiting team’s doctors are obioucly elsewhere.
I used to work for the neurosurgeon who was used by all the teams if needed. He was at every Bears game in a special box ready to be called down to the field if needed or to the sidelines.

I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I’ve been reading BCB for a while now but just never participated. Been a Cubs fan since I first became a fan of baseball as a kid. I live in the Louisville, KY area. We get WGN here so the only team I was able to watch on a semi-regular basis was the Cubs. I might even get to Chicago this summer to see a game in real life! The only MLB game I’ve ever been to was Mets/Dodgers at Shea a couple years ago before they tore it down.

why is he still behind Miles on the depth chart? We might keep him around NOW. Because we have an open roster spot, but Lou allowed Hendry to go out and get yet another bench player rather than give Scales a real shot. Lou seems to like Miles a lot more than Scales, and for no other reason than Miles is a veteran.

Including tonight, A-Ram has started 17 games.

If they win tonight, the Cubs will be 10-7 in those games, and 7-5 in other games.

Small sample size and all that.

funny story about Heilman

A close family friend does brick work for new homes being built and early in the off-season he was working on the home Aaron Heilman was having built. This was before he was traded to the Cubs. The friend got to talk to him asking if he was around here, since he wasn’t asked how he decided on this burbs. Heilman said him and his wife did not want to live in the same town he was pitching, so one day they grabbed and atlas, held their hands together, closed their eyes and picked a random spot and it happened to be in the suburbs of Chicago. 2 months after his home is built he is wearing a Cubs uniform…

The friend said he was a really good guy

A little more

As I mentioned before I dislocated my shoulder a few years back playing softball. It hurt like the dickens and I missed 3 weeks of playing and it was 2 weeks before I could resume normal activity. I just realized how long ago it was because I remember seeing Governor Edgar speak downtown while my shoulder was in a sling. Edgar left office in 1999. The pain honestly was if childbirth is a 10 this was a 9.5.

My husband dislocated his shoulder skiing 4 years ago and it was a severe dislocation. He wasn’t back to normal activity until March and this happened the week after new years. He said the pain worse than when he broke his ankle in 2 places.
