Total Games Back

Has anyone else heard how MIke Murphy on WSCR 670 The Score explains total games back? I think it is an interesting way to look at the standings, and was curious others thoughts. Basically, you add the games back from each team ahead of you, and that is the total games back you are in the division. It makes sense from the stance that you need each team ahead of you to lose while you win, meaning that you can gain a game on one team and not another.

Based on that thought, we are currently 9 Total Games Back, while 4.5 out of first place.

Team Win Loss GB Total GB

Milwaukee 30 20 0 0

St. Louis 29 21 1 1

Cincinnati 26 23 3.5 4.5

Chicago 25 24 4.5 9

Pittsburgh 22 28 8 17

Houston 20 28 9 26

Do you like this thought process for figuring how many games back a team is?
