or provide any of your own

by Not Bruce Froemming on Jun 12, 2009 3:29 PM CDT up reply actions

exactly my point

i have “nerve” to post anything contrary to your opinion as does everyone else here according to you

by DartmouthCubsFan on Jun 12, 2009 3:30 PM CDT up reply actions

No, you have "nerve"

because you’re basically doing exactly what you accuse me of doing.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Jun 12, 2009 3:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Don't worry, plenty of teams

use their best relievers only once a week or so.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Jun 12, 2009 3:28 PM CDT up reply actions

never what i've suggested

but again that’s cool

i’ve suggested two rules:

1) never work on 3 or 4 days of consecutive rest
2) dont work in games of more than 4 run difference in score

by DartmouthCubsFan on Jun 12, 2009 3:29 PM CDT up reply actions

argh

need to hit preview not post…

rule should read 1) never work on 3 or 4 days consecutively without rest

by DartmouthCubsFan on Jun 12, 2009 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Unrealistic

Plenty of relievers have to work three days in a row in order to hold leads or close games during a winning streak. And how many times have key relievers been brought in in blowouts because they haven’t pitched in a while and need the work?

by Not Bruce Froemming on Jun 12, 2009 3:33 PM CDT up reply actions

its not unrealistic

the good teams do it

if everyone was used the way Marmol has been, why is he leading the league in appearances and innings in relief by a wide margin over the last year and a half?

by DartmouthCubsFan on Jun 12, 2009 3:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Cite a few of the

“good” teams that don’t use relievers three games in a row, please.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Jun 12, 2009 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions

if i do

then what other evidence will you require?

by DartmouthCubsFan on Jun 12, 2009 3:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Forget it

We’ll just have to agree to disagree.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Jun 12, 2009 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions

seriously

i’d love to provide you whatever holy trinity of evidence you’re looking for, but at what point will you concede their is some level of merit to my claim

by DartmouthCubsFan on Jun 12, 2009 3:38 PM CDT up reply actions

exactly

you refuse to actually have debate on the topic. I provide evidence you ignore it, request more evidence, i provide it, you ignore it

you don’t provide any of your own

so what’s the point?

the Rays use JP Howell the exact way they should, the Red Sox do this with Papelbon (giving save chances to Saito if he’s worked two days in a row), the Orioles are pretty careful with Jim Johnson, the Padres have a good history under Bud Black of managing their top middle reliever (previously Heath Bell, now Mujica)

Part of this bad Cubs run is some awful luck

They’re allowing a lot of blooper hits. Meanwhile, other teams are making great defensive plays. Look at all the diving catches other teams have made against the Cubs this year. More than I can remember in a long time.

Disagree

Had a great april, a decent may and now a terrible June. He is showing the exact same things he was showing the 2nd half last year. Pulling off the ball, not hitting to left, not making contact etc.

Bottom line, there were rumblings Kosuke was stubborn about his game. The fact that he continues to do the same things is very concerning.

by thermal54 on Jun 12, 2009 3:54 PM CDT up reply actions

we couldn’t just tag up and run for days

by 12to23to17 on Jun 12, 2009 3:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Once you tag...

it’s a live ball situation. You could round the bases if you were enough. In this case, it’s a dead ball. So it’s one free base (It’s like when an infielder throws a ball away into the crowd behind first base).

They could’ve thrown out Fontenot going home. So it was good that Bradley was there to draw the attention. I not sure that that’s why he ran (he probably correctly assumed that the “right play” was to get the out at home on a fast developing play like that).

Yeah, but on a fast grounder to third like that...

I’m not sure that’s the correct play. (I’m listening on the radio so I don’t know what jump Fonty got). But you don’t typically go for the secondary runner on a fast developing play to a ball behind a runner at 3rd. Pat Hughes made note that it was a strange decision by Crede, for example.

yeah

I think his best bet is to talk to the press, say “wow, that was stupid” and get it over with.

I’ll make a note to NOT listen to the post-game…

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

I’m kinda getting sick of Lou’s regular banter, “Well…uh…we, yah, we, uh, we gotta produce.” There’s little substance there when Lou speaks.

(on most teams) you worry about pinch hitting for your OFs, since they’re usually your better hitters. We’re kind of a weird club in that regard.

That said, NO ONE better throw shit at Bradley in the outfield the rest of the game. Boo him, sure, if you have to, but no junk on the field.

This is reasoned, and not said in anger towards Milton Bradley

But, this is Hendry’s fault. He signed a guy that has problems staying healthy, who rarely played the OF in the past few years, and has been on about seven teams in seven years. Now, we are all supposed to be surprised that Milton Bradley isn’t working out?

by Nibbles on Jun 12, 2009 4:02 PM CDT reply actions

I've tried to support Milton Bradley because he's a Cub

I thought it was selfish of him not serve his suspension while he was injured, instead he appealed it and ended up missing games that he otherwise wouldn’t have for “principal.” Still, I could overlook that, and I can overlook the injuries, we knew that going in is one of the reasons I thought we were stupid to sign him in the first place, but there is NO EXCUSE for not knowing how many outs there are. We are paying him MILLIONS OF DOLLARS he can at least keep his stupid head in the game and be aware of the situation. My drunk ass softball team can even keep up with the number of outs while in the field.
