Does anyone believe
That the Cubs may literally have a curse over their franchise…or do you guys believe it’s all just a big joke…cause I’m really starting to ponder if that’s possible…
No such thing as a curse
Just lousy play.
This line from a movie, television show or other piece of popular culture pretty much sums up my entire personality.
No
but times like this make you wonder.
by Not Bruce Froemming on Jun 13, 2009 1:41 PM CDT up reply actions
Yeah...
I mean…as much as I love the Cubs with everything in me…and will never stop rooting for them, it’s just strange how terribly “cursed” this franchise has been in all areas and just the eerie ways we have lost games and series in the past makes me think maybe franchises can be cursed…
by sillybilly34 on Jun 13, 2009 1:44 PM CDT up reply actions
The way they are playing now
Is not an example of a curse. Last year’s playoffs would be an example of a curse. A curse isn’t a curse if you see it coming. It has to sneak up on you and rip your beating heart out while you watch. Kind of like in Indiana Jones.
So you're saying
there is a curse?
by Not Bruce Froemming on Jun 13, 2009 1:45 PM CDT up reply actions
No...
I definitely don’t want to speak those words over my beloved Cubs…but it’s just crossed my mind, especially after some Bosox and Cards fans I know were talking trash to me…

Horrible baseball
It is beginning to break my heart to watch. It is my transition. I used to be angry, not it hurts. I am starting to not care, and that is the part that hurts. Win a Date with Tad Hamilton on TBS is more appealing than this load of shit, and I cannot believe that I feel this way.

Can you imagine the pitches that Brandon Harris sees?
Batting in front of Mauer must be a boost of 20 to 30 for the old BA

Mauer's a 6'5" catcher?
That’s…unusual.

He is batting 414
That is even more amazing from a catcher. Shit, batting 214 is unusual in these parts

Harden is on his way to a quality start.
He and Wells need to change their nickname to “Desdichado” — the “disinherited one” — their offense has left them.

Question
If you could pick up a player for the remainder of the season for the Cubs who would it be? – the NL Central players that is…
I would have to say Hanley Ramirez for SS
And if we are including
Non-NL Central players then I’d have to say it’s a tie between Chase Utley and Ibanez
I love Jimmy Rollins
A speedy SS with an arm.
A really good rangy SS would help our 3B-fill-in out a lot, IMHO.
There is no infinity button for failing in sports. At some point, things turn. They always do. - Bill Simmons
You mean if I could have any guy on the Cubs, regardless of how plausible?
Pujols would be kind of hard to pass up. Or Mauer (assuming he continues to perform) actually would be better since we already have a decent first basemen…
by CubsWin!Oregon on Jun 13, 2009 1:56 PM CDT up reply actions
That's why I think you have to look
at a 2B more. Sure, Soto is scuffling, but upgrading Miles would seem to be the biggest change you could theoretically make.
Joe Mauer is special
I really like Soto…but I never thought I would be wishing we had Blanco back for his offense.

They're not all that close
Bellino is being quite generous
