Miguel Angel Sano?
A 16 year old Dominican prospect, said to be a cross between Hanley Ramirez and Albert Pujols, is being tracked by Cleveland, NYY and even the Pirates, with figures in the range of 3-4 Million being bandied about. Perhaps Jimbo should look into this

16 years old?
So he’s what… five or six years away from the major leagues? And you want to spend $4 million on him, not knowing whether that’s his real age or not?

You are right about age
nobody really does know, but I know teams have hired detectives to examine his paperwork and doctors to examine him and everybody seems to agree he is a legit 16.

its a shame
that these kids are always going to have their ages questioned. Sadly that is what needs to be done with a bunch of liars doing it before them

Well its no different than a draft pick
And if the rumors are true, his upside is far greater than our recent picks, and whats 4 million dollars to the Cubs? If the Pirates can sack up 4M for this guy, why cant we?

Because maybe that $4 million could be used to try to win now?

Let's be clear here
It’s Sano’s agent, and only Sano’s agent, who is comparing him to a cross between Hanley Ramirez and Albert Pujols. Put as much stock into it as you would Scott Boras describing Stephen Strasburg as a cross between Walter Johnson and Greg Maddux.
The Pirates are probably going to offer Sano $4 million to play for them. Just for reference, we paid Josh Vitters a $3.2 million bonus. I can’t say he’s not worth it, because I don’t know how good he is. But he’s not Albert Pujols who can play shortstop and steal bases, no matter what his agent says. If he was, he’d be worth a hell of a lot more than $4 million.
In any case, our ownership situation would probably prevent beating the Pirates offer. And the Pirates have been grooming this kid for so long, that you’re really going to have to pay more than Pittsburgh to get him.

Well the Cards and O's are in on him now
Momentum is building, and if hes 16 it wont matter if he’s not a SS b/c we have that Korean Derek Jeter coming up
