Keep this in mind....in 2007, the Cubs were 31-37 on June 17, 6.5 games behind

They also

had a healthy Aramis for much of that year. Who knows how he’ll be if/when he comes back.

it isn't their record

I think we can all agree that if the team was losing some games 12-10 or heck, 5-3 we could say maybe they will put it all together. But they are so imbalanced the record is hardly the issue.

Yep. Why is Lou still playing him. I just don't understand. I'm sorry...why?

I have faith in Bradley doing better. Even Sori will do a bit better and probably end up .260.

But that isn’t good enough.

this team is

so bad. again making a 4-5 4.81 pitcher look like Greg Maddux.

And as Len and Bob pointed out, every time this happens, it just gives the next days’ opposing pitcher more and more confidence coming in. They start the game feeling like they are Greg Maddux, vs. this team.

I think it's quite possible that Lou blew up at Hendry...

something to the effect of, “you got me this motley crew, get me some players in here, like yesterday”. Then Hendry goes scrambling, while Lou continues to play what he’s been given, sticking it in Hendry’s face.

Gotta getting my venting in somewhere and this the place.

I wish I could share your enthusiasm for things getting better but I can’t. The every day lineup just is terrible. Look at the batting averages, it’s the worst I’ve ever seen the Cubs have as far back as I can remember!!

how far is that?

because 2006 sucked. Several teams in the early 90s.

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

As far as I'm concerned, one of two things are going to happen

A. Our team averages are going to regress towards the mean

or

B. We are going to witness the single most dramatic team wide underperformance in MLB history

I’ll go with A

by santoswoodenlegs on Jun 17, 2009 3:49 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd love to see A happen

but B is more likely given that guys like DLee and Soriano are aging and most of the others are too young to have a real accurate sample size.

Two putouts for Fox!

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

I think we need Al

to get a Jake Fox putout tracker up on the main page.

go for it.

How bad could Fox be as a regular LF?

Keep in mind that I’ve lived through Gary Matthews, Dwight Smith, and Glenallen Hill as everyday LF.

until he gets traded. If he’s going to start for this team, it ain’t going to be as a LF

I'll be damned.

You can catch a ball in left field without hopping. Who knew?

sounds like complaining, sue

Which you’ve flamed me and others for in the past. Just sayin’.

by elgato on Jun 17, 2009 3:54 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't know you and I don't have a gripe with you personally

But I’ve been flamed a lot for “complaining” too much on this site. I think it’s pretty arbitrary to pick now as a stopping point.

by elgato on Jun 17, 2009 4:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Complaining? I was

making fun of Soriano’s hopping is all. Just sayin’

by sue369 on Jun 17, 2009 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions

right

So when I make fun of, say, the bad performance of Soto or Miles, it’s not complaining.

Noted for future reference.

Sorry if you can't

see the difference of making fun of and complaining.

by sue369 on Jun 17, 2009 4:00 PM CDT up reply actions

you're right

What you said really seemed like complaining about Soriano. I guess it’s just me.

This is why he hasn't been called up earlier

They were trying to teach him the hop in Iowa, but it wouldn’t take.
