MLB At Bat app to get live streaming video Thursday 6/18
Well now this is interesting. I just saw that the MLB application for the iphone will feature live video starting tomorrow, June 18th. At first there will be only two or three games offered per day, free of charge. The video stream will work on both Wifi and 3G (unsure about Edge for the older iphones, but, most likely it will work there with poor quality). MLB says that it plans to slowly expand the slate of games offered through the course of the season, and it may start charging on a per-game basis, though that has yet to be settled and no price has been set.
A few caveats apply:
Must have iPhone OS 3.0 for this to work (3.0 came out today)
Blackout restrictions apply. Boo.
No MLB.TV subscription required.

yeah only Major league baseball
would blackout somebody watching a game on a 3 inch screen.
They continue to be a collective giant pile of douche.
Just say no to players named Aaron on the Cubs.

I'm curious how they'll determine how to black you out
Current location (using GPS/triangulation) or address your account/billing information uses. Or both?

Interesting question.
There are a lot of cubs games on there early on. If i can’t see them because my billing is in chicago, i’ll have to find an old credit card somewhere else i guess.
And if i can’t because i’m physically in Chicago, i’ll have to just check in from Indiana this weekend and then turn off access to the GPS for that app.
Dicks.

Some applications require "location services"
Basically, what the app will do is ask you to turn on location services (or something like that) or you won’t be able to access the streaming video.

Just to verify...
it uses your GPS location. I’ve got a 773 area code but live in Milwaukee. Watching today’s game right now. Seriously people!! I’m watching a LIVE baseball game on my cell phone! I love technology.

I have an MLB. TV Subscription
I have not bought the app because it seems that it should be included in the premium package. If you can already stream it on any computer why not on your phone.
I’d like to see app included in the premium fee because your just watching/listening to what you paid for on a different platform and probably at reduce quality.

THIS IS AWESOME.
It better be on Edge, because I shelled out over $700 two years ago on release day for this phone. I can’t see MLB keeping this free, then again, I couldn’t believe they made the audio cheaper than the computer audio.

This is crap!
I’m not able to log into a live game on my ipod because it can’t use GPS to determine my location. What the heck!?!?!??!!?
