Possible Pedro
MAKE SURE YOU HIT THE "REC BUTTON"
So I'm gessing you guys have heard about how the Cubbies possible signing of Pedro Martinez.
1st bad thing: Randy Wells gets kicked out of the starting rotation
2nd bad thing: Spoiled Pedro get the 5 million he wants, even though he only pitched last season like a 990 k guy
3. Jake Fox gets sent down since Fat Lou likes having flexibility, so the Cubs will have 13 pitchers on the roster
4. Sure this is in case that Rich Harden has back issues later in the season, but what if the signing of Pedro ends up like the Steve Trachsel's did in 2007 (ugly)
All in all, don't sign him, Jim. You're already the most hated man in Chicago (besides Steve Bartman)

I heard Bruce Levine say on ESPN1000 that it was more of the agent asking the team to send scouts to check out his player rather than the other way around. I don’t really see meaning anything because we have plenty of starting pitching and our bullpen has been getting better as of late. Now if Pedro could start at SS or fill in at 3rd base or even learn to throw left handed I could see us going after him, otherwise no thanks.

This got a lot of discussion on the front page...
but the only way this would make sense is if Pedro pitches well enough to make Harden expendable. Then you can trade Harden for another bat and/or relief help.

I read about this
And I just don’t get it. Why the heck do we need pitching?

said it above. Pedro would be an insurance option if we use Harden to acquire another bat.

That’s what Pedro needs to wear nowadays…
Oh, I crack myself up.
One day I hope to come up with something worthy of this space.

Obviously...
but do you like Harden and the crap hitting we have more than Pedro and a better bat and a good reliever?
The idea wouldn’t be to just dump Harden. It would be to trade Harden (and lose some pitching) for a hitter and maybe a good relief arm (and thus offset the pitching with better hitting and bullpen).

It wasnt a serious question
I dont see how he’d fit in with the team anyway, but he seems like the type of player who is attached a certain number

I think the only reason this is possible
Is beecause the Cubs are shopping Harden. I think they’re trying to trade him to get some help at third

Harden
sure hardens cy-young potential but if he could just keep his arm healthy he’d win 20 games/season

Well if the ARam news is true
And hes progressing and will be back around the all star break, thats only a month away. So would they really trade Harden for one month of help at third?

We still need a viable 3B backup...
…assuming Ryan Freel is not the answer there.

Maybe it wouldn't be a third baseman
Third base isn’t the only sinkhole right now in the lineup.

Dempster?
Could it be a case of the Cubs thinking Dempster might be needing to take a leave of absence because of the illness of his daughter? It may be precautionary as much as anything. Between his personal issues and Harden always being one pitch away from the disabled list, that could be the reason they are considering him.
Than said, I bet he turns up with the Rays.

Really, if the Cubs have the money to spend to get this guy
what they should be doing is getting someone via trade that can bring back some lineup flexibility. We all know Jimbo was caught with his pants down when Rami got hurt at the same time the Cubs were finding out Fontenot wasn’t an everyday player and Miles, well what can be said about him other than he just isn’t very good (4.9 million reasons why he isn’t very good).

Can Pedro hit?
If not, I see no need to acquire him. Our pitching staff has been doing a good job. The relievers need to be more consistent but our problems are at the plate.

I heard Dave Kaplan mention this yesterday...
…and my first thought, like a few others here, was that acquiring Pedro would be a precursor to trading Harden. That said, Kap made it clear that, as of right now, the Cubs are stating that no formal offer has been made.
Nothing about Pedro really excites. Honestly, this reminds me a little of the Steve Trachsel move in ‘07. And I’m still dubious of losing a pitcher as talented as Rich Harden – even with his injury woes. But if the team can add a bat or at least some depth, maybe it would work out.

Adding a bat
That’s what we need, and that’s what I think signing Pedro might allow us to do (by trading Harden) but to me, the only type of “bat” that could help this team is one that could carry the rest of the team on it’s back. We already have enough complimentary bats…. we need a Manny or Tex type of bat. Something I don’t think is very likely.

Alternative Idea
What about signing Pedro and moving Zambrano to RF?
No, I’m not really serious about this, but you would get more power and a better bat right now (and likely no worse defense) with the Big Z in RF.

idea
actually not a bad idea-with no wind during big-Zs blowup, he would’ve thrown it into the stands frum almst homeplate-and maybe he’d know how many outs there are!

your link
is from 10 days ago. We don’t need more pitchers. Why should I rec a fanpost based on 10 day old information?
I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

No offense...
But saying “HIT THE REC BUTTON” isn’t going to get your post recommended. Plus this is silly, what would Pedro add to the Cubs? Aside from another bullpen liability, of course.
Perhaps if we had another bat, someone like DeRosa, we’d win some games…
Oh wait… FML.

You've been a Cubs fan your whole life?
And you say that Steve Bartman is the second most hated man in Chicago behind Jim Hendry? Um… the media LOVES to play up the Bartman story, but probably 99% of Cubs fans don’t hate Steve Bartman.
And yeah, why IS this back.
