Just a thought about Soriano

I don't like this guy, never have, never will. I was just thinking, and this is totally hypothetical and probably unrealistic, who could we deal for by sending the other team Alfonso Soriano.

Star-divide

Here's a few I came up with:

Vernon Wells

Michael Young

Ichiro Suzuki

I like all the players out of that group. Probably the most possible would be Vernon Wells, which I would think would be a good value pick up. Wells coming from the AL would benefit from NL pitching, he plays a good CF, and we could play Micah Hoffpauir and Jake Fox in LF from time to time and maybe ship Reed Johnson if we wanted to for whatever.

Michael Young would fit contract wise but i doubt the Texas Rangers would do it unless it were a 3 way deal involving a pitcher.

Ichiro probably would only happen with prospects because of the state of the Seattle Mariners.

Due to the Cubs

having zero prospects, you can shorten that list to 2.

I don’t like any of them besides the one you can rule out, Ichiro.

Due to the five years left on his deal, Soriano is basically untradeable.

Plus, he has a full NTC.

Face it. We’re stuck with him.

Wells has a huge deal too, doesnt he?

Look again

10:$12.5M, 11:$23M, 12:$21M, 13:$21M, 14:$21M

Wow, those are ridiculous numbers.

Wells hasn’t been doing so well this year, either.

Yea but look at Ibanez coming from a pitcher friendly AL park.

Imagine how Wells could do. Not as great as Ibanez but hell probably better than Alfonso.

Get Peavy already! I want my #44 jersey!

I thought so

I remember being pretty shocked when got a 100M dollar deal

GREAT IDEA!

And then we trade Derrek Lee straight up for Albert Pujols. Ship Andres Blanco and Aaron Miles to Philly for Chase Utley. That sets up the Theriot +Fontenot for Hanley Ramirez deal. Now we ship Soto for Joe Mauer and our offense is fixed!

But wait I’m not done, then we use our magical time machine to bring back Joe DiMaggio and park him in CF. And while we’re at it, Cy Young would definitely shore up the rotation, don’t you think?

Nobody cares

about your fantasy baseball team. :P

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

the brewers will probably win 3 of the next four division titles

they are the only team effectively growing prospects.

between the cubs, the reds, and the cardinals, the race is on to see which one follows suit best. if one outdoes the others, they could have a legit divisional dynasty.

Well, then,

there’s no need for any other NL Central team to play again until 2014.

as easy as it is to hate on soriano

and i think he’s plenty deserving recently. you might want to look at the cubs record last year when he played v. when he was injured. i believe it was 71-38 with him and 26-26 without him. i would say a healthy soriano is an asset.

by Hawk8 on Jun 17, 2009 9:20 PM CDT reply actions

Sure.

But he’s apparently not healthy. Put him on the DL.

agreed

don’t trade him for vernon wells or michael young. i also don’t think an ichiro for soriano swap would excite the mariners.

by Hawk8 on Jun 17, 2009 9:26 PM CDT reply actions

i would trade soriano straight up for wells.

better defense, younger. Young- nah, 31 already, good hitter, but i wonder if Arlington inflates his stats. Ichrio- no way, 34 years old

Wow, Soriano for Ichiro.

I haven’t read a fantasy that fully realized since “Lord of the Rings.”

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
