well

I’m pending my conference call, so…

two outs, two one, Dome to the plate. He takes a strike.

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

alright..since you are sitting on your own unicorn..

I never said that “Game Ovah” is not bull spit. It doesn’t take much to understand that I am not trying to formulate a rational argument by saying – “Game Ovah”. It’s just frustration. So understand that and let it go.

On the other hand I think you and NBF have a huge damn ego and way too immature.

by cubsnlinux on Jun 18, 2009 2:57 PM CDT up reply actions

I have an idea...

Don’t use “I am not trying to formulate a rational argument” as an excuse.

Try this, instead: If something you are taking the time to type (and thus wasting our time in reading) doesn’t even, by your own admission, pass the “is this a rational thing to say?” test, it may not be worth typing.

Look man, i get it. Its frustrating. We are all fans of the same team, and we are all watching the same game. I just don’t get how saying admittedly irrational things helps any of us, yourself included.

And i can’t speak for NBF, but if you look at my comment history you’ll see there is no ego in saying that. Only support for my team and the desire to see this website as a positive community we can all enjoy.

I don't give a crap about NBF...

but I am with you on all that. I completely agree. On the same token, please don’t respond to every negative post. It doesn’t serve any purpose. It only adds fuel to the fire and things very soon will get way out of control and people all of a sudden get very personal.

I hope you are clever enough to understand the above.

by cubsnlinux on Jun 18, 2009 3:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Glad we could meet a nice happy agreeing place.

And seriously, i don’t respond to EVERY negative post. In fact, yours was the first today and in a very very long while. Its easy to look up my post history. Stop claiming what ain’t true.

I don’t have a problem with negative posts. The play on the field is making us all feel a bit negative. I only took issue with the idea that the game was over. I choose to keep up hope. I know this irks many, and thats fine.

We are all entitled to our opinions, and we are all entitled to disagree with others opinions. The opinion that this game was over at one run down and multiple innings to go was one i disagreed with.

Well, they aren't all that good.

You’d think that this team, for $140M, would have a power threat.

I don’t think that they should be sellers at the deadline, or anything, but at the end of this season an “end of Godfather 1” type of bloodbath may be in order. If this keeps up, we are going to need to get some NTCs waived and get some position players moved out, even if it means eating a gigantic amount of salary.

The time for a Soriano trade, if it’s ever going to happen, is probably coming up quick. No one is going to want the tail end of this contract if they can’t get the next couple of years, too. Maybe throwing $9M annually into the deal will get a buyer.

I just don’t buy into the desperate wisdom of some here who think that there isn’t a chance in hell that anyone would ever want to acquire any of the Cubs players, no matter what their situation.

I say put ‘em on the block and see who bids. If it’s nobody, then it’s nobody; and frankly, if it’s nobody, stop pretending this team stocked with players nobody would EVER trade for can win a championship. It makes no sense.

And follow that by firing a GM who would field a team of players nobody in all of baseball would want, even for a stretch playoff run. If the team fielded is that unanimously regarded as overpaidf/worthless, your GM has failed at a level almost unprecedented in baseball history.

Many do not seem to be familiar with the concept of buy low / sell high.

Why would we unload statistically and historically good players at their all time low values? That doesn’t help us improve. What we’d get for a lot of these guys now would NOT be worth what we’d give up, no matter how bad they are looking of late.

On a large-scale level, I know there was.

It is a difficult spot for Lou to be in, but it’s he has to manage on a game-to-game basis.

Did Zambrano look as sharp today as he was in Houston? I don’t think he did, which is why I would have preferred to see the bullpen loosening prior to the beginning of the 7th.

It might not have prevented Ramirez’s homerun, but to me it illustrates that maybe Lou was not anticipating any trouble in the 7th, and that is a problem.

Would it be so bad to be sellers at the deadline?

This team needs to make some substantial moves. Ideally, one of the unholy axis of Fukudome and Soriano could be traded, along with a check for half of their remaining salaries. But that’s pretty unlikely.

Fukudome is now 0 for his last 21. That is sad.

He is 2 for his last 34. And it goes on like that, but I was too depressed to continue.

This roster, in its current construction, is toxic. It’s old, powerless, and unfathomably expensive.

Mr. Hendry has burned through the Tribune’s money at a ridiculous rate, and has compiled a 25-man roster which every single one of us who were willing to use their eyes could see was illogically constructed and doomed to fail.

For instance, what, exactly, in Milton Bradley’s history made Hendry think that Milton was a legitimate replacement for anyone, let alone a player worth 3 years and eight figures annually?

Maybe Seattle would take Dome, and a check for $12M, to be their new RF/4th OF after Griffey retires. If Dome is a Cub in 2010 I will be livid.

Or perhaps we simply eat it for this year and get nothing in return.

Money can be exchanged for goods and services.

(/homer voice)

Under the situation I proposed, the Cubs send Fukudome to Seattle, along with $12M over the next 2 years, and receive nothing.

The Cubs previously owed Dome $24M. Now they owe him $12M over the next 2 years. They have now saved $12M, which can be invested in a new player. Ideally, one capable of playing at an MLB level.

My asking price is this: Nothing.

Not even the 42 cent stamp with which I will personally mail Seattle the check for half of Dome’s salary.

The team needs a roster overhaul, and as much as I hate to say it, clearing $12M from Dome’s deal and eating the other 12 beats the absolute hell out of paying him the full 24.

They can then use the 12M they save toward a legitimate MLB player.

That's been my point.

Eat the salary this year , as absolutely needed to make the trades— seek only salary dump for compensation in the trades. Open up as much salary for next year as possible, and then reboot the lineup in the offseason.

If you think a salary dump affects us only for the next few months, you are wrong.

What you are proposing handcuffs this team for years to come. You want to dump multi-year players, we will be paying at least a portion of their contracts for years to come.

The problem is that there is no money for next year

The Cubs are maxed. That was a huge point of contention in the Peavy deal. 2010 will not be kind to the Cubs if they can’t fill some holes through trades and call-ups.

This team can't get better if its got millions invested in paying players on other teams.

As long as we're only paying a portion, we save money.

Fukudome needs to go. He needs to go immediately, and to the team that will take on the most of his salary.

Seatlle may be able to leverage the fact that he’s a former Japan league star in order to generate some more value out of him.

Pshaw. This team is 2005.

2005 – Nomar goes down, team treads water for a while, but loses a ton.
2009 – Ramirez goes down, team treads water for a while, loses even more.

Both teams, I am afraid, marked the last gasp of the then constituted 25-man roster before the abyss.

This team is going to be remarkably bad if they’re going to keep this group of old, non-powerhitting, comically poor fundamental playing, position players.

This pitching staff should sue.

Lee

drives one in the air, deep…. HOME RUN!

You're a normal Cub fan like the rest of us!

It doesn't matter how old you are,

All that matters is that you’re a Cubs fan!

The Cubs just beat the White Sox

Who here wouldn’t be feeling giddy right now?

Imagine

that if a single win feels this good after just 4 losses, how it will feel when, dare I say, IT finally happens ? I could die happy

They can't

Until I’m President and I get to throw out the first pitch in game 1. So, about 20 years. Sorry.

I think it's pretty clear...

that this is the first game of Soriano’s triumphant surge to an MVP season.

WHEW!

There is STILL HOPE!!!

Just heard Lou on the CSN post-game.

What is Von Joshua doing now he’s asked:

“Von is trying to get the players to take it to the opposite field more. Also, stay on the ball longer, and be more selective…”

by The E-Man on Jun 18, 2009 4:18 PM CDT reply actions

That comment by Lou does give me hope...

…and it makes perfect sense. Hit it where it’s pitched, take what they give ya, (b/c everybody is throwing them away- whether it’s a RH batter, or a LH batter). Be selective, take some pitches, get something to hit.

We don’t want to forget him, we don’t need any more jinxes!
