Why doesnt Hendry finally trade for Brian Roberts once and for all!!!!!!

I still do not know what the hold up is for the Cubs to look into acquiring Brian Roberts. I think this season they need him more than ever. Roberts could play second base for the Cubs and the Cubs could move Aaron Miles to the bench where he belongs. He could also provide the Cubs a contact hitter that could steal bases at the top of their order to move Soriano down in the lineup where he belongs. This season Roberts is hitting .287 with 47 RBIs with 14 stolen bases . The Orioles are 12 games out and should be dumping off players soon. I hope Hendry looks at trying to finally get this deal to work. I mean even if the Cubs have to trade off 1 or 2 of their good pitching prospects..Ex Sean Marshall, Smargjia, or even Randy Wells, the Cubs window to win a world series is slowly closing and they need to make a deal to get some offense soon or it will be too late. Let me know what you think of Brian Roberts to the Cubs would be an ideal move for Hendry to make

Bonds!

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

We have a surplus of it. It’s plausible. Randy Wells might be in their future. Or Harden

As much as I wanted this guy going into the previous

season or 2, I’d much rather see the Cubs try to pluck DeRo back from the Tribe; thinking they could help their own cause by hammering them this weekend. The way they’re not hitting – like Al’s gameday thread about Z having to throw a goose-egg and hit a HR – it doesn’t seem too likely.

DeRo is far cheaper (ownership BS) and far more versatile than B-Rob.

Contradiction in Terms?

So it seems in order for the Cubs to convince the Tribe to trade DeRosa is to score a lot of runs against them this weekend, thereby proving the Cubs don’t need DeRo to score runs.

Roberts has 47 RBI's...

That’s 19 more than the Cubs’ team leader. So the freaking Baltimore Oriole’s second baseman has more RBI’s than Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, Bradley, Soto, Fukudome… God what a disgusting offense this year.

by kanderber on Jun 18, 2009 3:09 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Don't forget to add that

not only is it the Baltimore Oriole’s second baseman with more RBI’s, but its also the Baltimore Orioles lead off hitter as well. Its not like he’s their cleanup hitter or somewhere else in the middle of the lineup, but their freakin lead off hitter!

But remember

AL has a DH so it’s not like a pitcher is in front of him.

Regardless he wouldn’t have those many RBI’s as a cub. Everyone else would have to hit for that to happen.

All kidding aside, had we traded for him last year, it would have worked out well for the Cubs this year. We wouldn’t be complaining as much about a DeRosa trade.

Not going to happen

Brian Roberts is a favorite of Peter Angelos, doesn’t fit the Cub payroll situation, and Andy McPhail would want a mountain of top shelf talent in return even if he were so inclined to trade him.

I would think Josh Vitters would have to be a name included to even get a whiff of Baltimore’s attention.

You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little messed up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?

O's won't trade Roberts now

Maybe two years ago or even last year not this year. They have a good young team in progress. Wieters, Roberts, Jones, Reimhold and Markakis. They will most likely have 3 pitchers start minor league All-Star games this year in Low A, High A and Double A.
O’s are finally going in the right direction, unfortunately they play in the AL East.

Roberts is 31

won’t turn 32 until October. All those players are starting now. Yes the staff will be at least two years away, but Roberts is still at a decent age.

"Have You heard of the Boom on Mizar 5?"

by Grockcubs on Jun 18, 2009 8:55 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right, but I dont think the O's are that close

especially given that division….one would think that theyd start competing for real when Markakis is at his peak and reimold/weiters/jones are starting to “get it” then they’d be real dangerous, but Roberts could be 34 by the time that happens, and how much of a difference will a second baseman make anyway? They shouldve dealt him for some complimentary parts to their core when they had the chance, which they still do.

Im not familiar enough with the O’s to say what small parts they might be missing, theyre obviously set in the OF and behind the dish…perhaps they need a closer?

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

zzzzz

If you want Brian Roberts then be prepared to dangle something like Josh Vitters and Sean Marshall to even get Andy McPhail to take the call. While I understand it is foreign concept to a lot of Cub fans, the Baltimore Orioles don’t exist for the pleasure of trading us their top flight talent for the equivalent of a bag of magic beans.

In fact, the future of the Orioles looks distinctly more promising than that of the Cubs. A great nucleus of young talent with pitching quality in the pipeline.

You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little messed up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?

Cubs By The Numbers

Cubs By The Numbers is a history of the ballclub by uniform number, but the biographies help trace the history of our beloved team in a new way. For everyone who's a Cubs fan, anyone who ever wore the uniform is like family. Cubs By The Numbers reintroduces readers to some of their long-lost ancestors, even ones they think they already know.
