Carlos Marmol And The Giant Glove

This one requires a bit of explanation. This glove belongs to one of the Waveland ballhawks. Somehow it made its way into the ballpark during batting practice on Thursday. Several players tried it out, including Carlos Marmol. (Ballhawk, feel free to elaborate if you know more.)

Yes, he caught a couple.

Whatever it is

Tell them to bring it tomorrow and every other day after we win!

Maybe we could give that to Rammy

So he wouldn’t have to dive and dislocate his shoulder.

Everyone loves giant gloves!

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

You should really stay consistent

and include a glove in that last picture.
oh….wait….nevermind….

Ahh.. if only the strike zone were as big..

Though to give Marmol some credit, at least he didn’t walk anyone today. Does anyone know if he got his slider across today, or if he was just getting pasted on his fastball? I hope he figures out his slider – he’s not a good pitcher without it.

Here's what I know, but not sure if it's the whole story

Yes, one of the regular ballhawks (Dave) has a big glove like that, but I don’t think his is the one that was inside the park today.

Early in BP today, I saw a guy walk along the back concourse in the bleachers and he had one of those gloves. Somebody yelled up, asking where he got it from, and he replied “Online.” Interestingly enough, this guy was wearing a Nationals shirt. Maybe it’s really Adam Dunn’s? ;-)

Anyway, I don’t think Dave was inside the ballpark today, so my guess is Marmol somehow got a hold of that glove from the Nationals guy.

No here's what really happened.

I was sitting in the front row, almost right infront of this guy. He was wearing an All Star Soriano National league jersey. Marmol saw the giant glove and threw his glove up to the guy and asked to see his. Marmol probably played around with it for 15 minutes or so, only making one catch. He had a couple balls go through the webbing of the glove because it was too big for a baseball.

I thought it was a little interesting Marmol was goofing around like that, considering he hasn’t been too good lately AND Lou was standing in shallow left field watching BP.

thanks for clarifying the Nationals/National jersey thing. I thought it odd that the guy'd be wearing a Nationals jersey

didn’t think they had any fans outside the beltway.

No problem.

I did a double take when I saw that jersey too.

well

that’s better than the red one for this year.

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

Now, here's what I want to know...

Did the glove make its way into the infield? ‘Cause I would love to have seen Miles with that thing. My guess is he’d put it on and then tip over to the side just like Fred Flintstone’s car did when the waitress served him his order of brontosaurus ribs…

The chick with the glove was pretty cute :)

She was sitting near the well in LF. It was kinda hard to miss.

Hopefully...

He’s getting the start at 3rd today, per 670 the score.

Those are the lines most ball parks have depending on how they cut the grass.

Who remembers Joe Morgan blaming those lines on a couple missplayed balls at Wrigley a couple years ago.

glove

good idea. give the glove to fox and maybe we can get him in the lineup. maybe its time to stop worrying about his defense if you need hitting so bad.my guess is soriano,s knee could be affecting his hitting.

I didn’t see you came up with that brilliant idea first. Props to you and sorry for double posting.

Give Fox the glove

Let him play LF for a couple weeks. We can’t lose!

Marshall?

He’s a lefty though. Must have been doubly weird for him.

Yeah it was a goofy day.

Three sox pitchers, Buerhle, Danks, and Clayton Richards (I believe) were having an opposite arm throwing contest. So Danks was throwing with his right arm, etc…
