Fehr Stepping Down
According to a source, MLBPA executive director Donald Fehr is stepping down. Fehr has been leading the Union since the mid-1980's, so this will mark a big change for the MLBPA.

HOORAY!!!
Maybe the MLBPA will get someone in there who isn’t as hard-line as Fehr, who will actually follow the players’ lead rather than dictate terms to them.

From Fehr's Statement Before The House Committe on Oversight and Gov't Reform:
The union’s task – and my job – is to represent the players, all of the players…We represent players who want their medical records to remain confidential and private…We represent players who believe that no one should have their reputations forever tarnished without the opportunity first to confront their accuser and have a neutral weigh the evidence.
Good job, Don.

Meh...
He wasn’t the most media savvy of union leaders, but I thought he did an adequate job of using every bargaining chip he had to fight for for rights of the players. Yes, critics will state that he took an absurd stance against steroid use, but his job wasn’t to make us as fans happy, but to fight tooth and nail for his union members no matter how unpopular the stance may have been. When he started his job, the MLBPA was the most powerful sports union around (maybe the most powerful union period), and he left it that way.
Of course, his downfall was not destroying those steroid test records immediately and allowing the G to get their hands on it week later.

Good riddance...
I like him about as much as I like Scott Boras…(ie not at all).
It would be great if they get a Union head who is concerned with representing the players, instead of one who spends all his time looking in a mirror and flexing his power for the sake of doing so.
