MLB Network Showing Kerry Wood's 20 K day

Random thing I came across, 2 PM to 4:30 today they are showing the entire game.  It's very interesting to get this look back, seeing a lot of names I haven't heard in a long time, and getting to hear Chip and Stoney call a game again.

It's also really odd to see Wrigley so empty.  So many empty seats during what turned out to be such a historic day.

Anyway, it's a fun little look back if you happen to have nothing better to do.

I don't want to see it...

it just makes me sad.

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

At that time in 1998...

… the Cubs were coming off a 94-loss season. It was early May, the Cubs were 16-15 going into that day, in fourth place. No one suspected what was to come that year.

Plus, it was a Wednesday afternoon and the weather was iffy (it rained lightly from about the 6th to 8th innings).

You could have bought season tickets just about anywhere in the park that year.

i did. and the following is a true story...

I heard Mark Grace on the Jim Rome show in February. He was talking about how he liked the team they had and that this kid Kerry Wood was the real deal.

The next day I called up Rome’s show and said that with Hampton and Kile leaving the central, that I liked the Cubs to win the central that year. He said, “Ordinarily I would rip you here but I can’t. They look good and they have a chance”

No shit?

Not sure why you need to resort to that type of language, but what was the point then?

by ARob1 on Jun 23, 2009 6:03 PM CDT up reply actions

that i knew they were going to be good.

his quote above:

" the Cubs were coming off a 94-loss season. It was early May, the Cubs were 16-15 going into that day, in fourth place. No one suspected what was to come that year."

and while i surely couldn’t have predicted Sammy’s year, I new they had a quality team. And I thought they were playoff bound.

I blame Dusty.

Even if he wasn’t with the team.

Maybe...

…He’ll strikeout 21 on the replay.

Did anyone notice Pitch number one

Sandy martinez couldn’t handle the fastball, he barely got a glove on it and it hit the umpire in the mask. I think it was traveling at such velocity that the umpire couldn’t see straight and opened up the strike zone due to his concussion. Now that we know that a concussion can open up a strike zone, lets keep that information in our pocket and the next time the cubs are in a clinching playoff game, lets call Larry and tell him what pitch one should be. One to the dome, the blue dome.
