I know there are a lot of ex-Iowans around here, if you haven't already heard, Ed Thomas, coach of the Aplington-Parkersburg football team was shot and killed this morning during weight training workouts this morning.
This is a guy who has been a tremendous positive force for a lot of kids, not to mention to town, in which there has already had too much tragedy recently.
It makes me sick.

They are just getting ready to have the story on ABC

Just read the article that came out of your link and that sounds like the act of a really disturbed person.
My thoughts go out to his family and all those who’s lives he impacted.

If the world didn't suck we would all fall off.

Coach Thomas was so important to AP

Sports plays such a huge roll in the fabric of a small town. After the tornado last year the return of the Falcons to the field last fall was a wonderful step for the town. I believe something like 80-90 percent of Parkersburg was destroyed last year. Coach Thomas and his kids were a source of inspiration, and a important step in the rebuilding process. This is such a tragedy on top of what happened last year. I am guessing that what will come out eventually is that this disturbed young man was probably the kind of kid that Coach Thomas helped the most during his life. The stories about the guys he sent to the NFL are nice, but a coach impacts so many lives.

I couldn't believe

it when i heard this this morning. This is such a tragedy. I really worry for the 50 some young men who were in the weight room when this happened. I’m not sure how you go about moving forward after witnessing something like this. Coach Thomas was so respected in football. There are some things in life you never understand and this is one of them.
