I'm trying to look for the silver lining

And I just can’t find it. Maybe the silence when Jake Fox knocks his second homer of the game?

Hawk/Stone

remind me why I like L&B.

Has one crew ever used more cliches in less time than those two? Yikes.

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

It's just insane.....

I mean, I can understand struggling – as in having trouble breaking 5 runs in a game for a week.

But the Cubs’ ineptitute defies reality. The fact that they actually are this consistently bad – especially with RISP – would seem to be evidence of throwing games if I didn’t know better.

I mean, can an offense REALLY be this bad?!?! Really?!?!

I think he has been highly critical of the team

including the effort being shown and the fundamentals. I just get that feeling from his tone.

As to shaking it up, I can guarantee you Soriano would not be batting first, nor would he be playing every day given how lazy he is and that he refuses to alter his approach.

But you are right to an extent, the disaster that is Jim Hendry has hamstrung this team.

has absolutely nothing

to do with his being lazy. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest his is lazy. Lazy players don’t ask to play 150+ games a year. Lazy players don’t say “I will do whatever Lou Piniella asks me to do.” Lazy players don’t push themselves when they hurt.

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. Show me where I hollered at Blanco

And no, bunting a ball is essentially catching a ball with the bat. It’s a fundamental skill that every player should be able to do. It speaks to a failing of the minor league coaching staff if multiple players cannot execute a play that is a skill that high school players can handle with regularity.

As for your blind devotion to the Cubs, well, I’m behind the Cubs here more than anybody but you. But at least I can look at the team objectively.

by elgato on Jun 26, 2009 3:43 PM CDT up reply actions

You're right, it does happen.

But to me, bunting should be easier than actually swinging a bat, because you’re not swinging. You’re “catching” the ball with the bat. And if I’m going to be upset when a high-schooler can’t execute a bunt, then I’m going to be frustrated when a Major League baseball player whose skill set is bat control and good fielding can’t do it.

You’re right, it does happen. But I’d hope that Blanco would do better than that.

I'd agree on those 3

and probably put Wells right up there. But a case could be made for Fox. That’s what’s sobering to me. On a team with this much payroll, the call-up guy is the one outplaying everyone? Man.

We have this many runs!

A little comparison

Jake Fox: 36 AB, 2 HR, 11 RBI
Milton Bradley: 168 AB, 5 HR, 16 RBI

I’m starting to lose a little faith. And when it comes to Hawk, the only reason i would want to the sox to lose every game is because of him.
