We will need them.

Wouldn't
It be fitting that Bradley ends this game with a walk off shot?? Let’s go Cubbies!!
Go Cubs Go!!!!
we're visitors
we can’t walkoff.
I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

Ramirez held Freel, but when he threw to first, Freel decided to go home anyway. He beat the throw from first to home, and Dome made it to second.

When will Lou admit he was wrong
about Marmol AND STOP USING HIM IN THE 8TH INNING ?? Seriously this is INSANE. Ok he did not walk anyone but he did not strike anyone out either and threw 26 pitches. At this point I would rather have David Patton in the 8th but of course we only see him once a week so probably not the best idea. Lou’s idea of managing is the same as Dusty’s just keep doing the SAME thing ( as in Neffi, Hawkins etc) to show you MUST be right when you said you trusted a player.

OT: Update on DeRo
Just caught the first part of the Indians radio broadcast — right before the first pitch…
DeRo is not in the starting lineup tonight. Tom Hamilton said that no one will say anything about why he is not in the lineup (he is not injured), and he saw DeRo in the clubhouse making lots of phone calls while the rest of the team was out on the field stretching.
There has been no official announcement, and there probably won’t be one until the end of the game, but Hamilton feels that DeRo has been notified of a trade. Hamilton made no guess about what other team(s) may be involved.
It would make sense that Hendry would make more of an effort to get DeRo now, since he might be the guy to help Gameboard feel more welcome in the clubhouse. Of course the Reds, Cards, Brewers, Braves, Marlins, Yankees, etc. probably feel the same way.
Stay tuned…

Hoff/Fox would outperform...
Bradley by a sizable margin. Defense would take a hit, but we need offense. Badly.
I don't
agree with that at all. You’re speculating. Bradley, for example, got on base two more times then Fox did.
I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. Sure...
So if the Hoff/Fox platoon doesn’t work, but DeRo in RF. He’s a pretty sure bet to continue to outperform Milton.
and if you do that
then you lose whatever infield insurance you gained by getting DeRosa in the first place.
That’s why you keep both.

You don't get DeRosa...
To get infield insurance. You get him to hit. Regardless of it’s as a RF, 3B, etc.
you get DeRosa
to make the team better. It doesn’t make the team better to make Right Field — at Wrigley, no less — weaker.

Defensive Metrics
I’d like to see where all the previous pennant winners ranked in terms of fielding percentage, or whatever the current (read: more accurate) measure of fielding prowess is. Obviously the teams that lead the league in errors won’t be up there, but I’m curious as to exactly how much fielding factors in – especially with respect to runs scored/runs allowed, team ERA, league OBP.
my argument
is that Fox and Hoff are both pretty much unproven, and Bradley is not a .230 hitter.
Sacrificing defense for possible offense is not the way to contend.
Besides, this is my dream, and if I want DeRo AND Bradley, I can have them. :P

I just don't get it.
He is a former starter who had to get all batters out and I believe he had pretty good numbers overall. Why is he our designated LOOGY.
I understand using him in LOOGY situations but he can be left in if needed.
another question would be why did Marmol pitch at all
this was another in a long line of poorly managed games by Lou
by WanderingWanderer on Jun 27, 2009 6:49 PM CDT up reply actions
Sorry not in Lou's book
Just like a week ago when Lou put him in for a single batter ( who got a lucky hit) then pulled him for Marmol who gave up bases
loaded walk which lead to our entire bullpen being blown out and Guzman going on the DL. Lou absolutely can NOT manage the bullpen and does not think past one batter. We were in a TIE game at a visitors park which is a good time to conserve your pitchers but not Lou. I know how much I sound like a broken record but it is just mind boggling that he keeps doing the same stuff over and over and over and never learning from any of it. I honestly think Derek Lowe got it right when he said that Lou still had a hitter mentality and he neither understood nor trusted pitchers.

Had no walks and gave up a bloop hit and a see eye groundball hit. It was actually a very good outing for him.

He threw more strikes today
but he also did not make good pitches to Beckham (an easy strikeout victim down in the count) and Alexi 0-2. I would say it was a “better” outing for Marmol, but when you blow the lead, you cant have a vry good outing.
Bloop hits not really pitchers fault
nor are seeing eye ground balls.
