and now

Z hits Wise. The home plate umpire gets between the two of them. Z is being told to go back to the mound. Wise to first.

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

This is why I wish

Lou would just switch Blanco & Theriot in the infield. I know it will never happen, but damn—the improvement on plays like that would be extreme.

Brenly airing out Theriot

Says that, on a steal attempt, Theriot always moves up to take the throw and reaches back for the tag, instead of staying back on the bag and letting the throw get there.

by CaliCub on Jun 28, 2009 3:06 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

It's not the first time he's said that...

And he’s absolutely right. I don’t know why no one has talked to Theriot about it.

by kanderber on Jun 28, 2009 3:06 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think his comment was about most infielders, not just Theriot

…and he is right. The throw by Soto beat the runner. The ball can move faster than the mitt.

only because Soto didn't get up

a pitch out is the proper thing to do when you see the runner charging down from third—it prevents the bunt and gives the catcher an easy put out..if he gets off his butt and catches the ball. Unfortunately Soto was napping and it was called a WP.

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. Cubs have three series against Central teams, IIRC, including four against Milwaukee and St. Louis. The other series is against the Braves, which is a winnable one. All but three of those games (the upcoming Pirates series) are at home.

sarcasm begets sarcasm...

I assumed that if you were calling my comment essentially a joke, then i was within bounds to respond with sarcasm.

If that wasn’t your intention, my apologies.

i did not mean anything bad by it at all

i think i just need to stop watching the cubs for a bit right now. hopefully they come back and win, but i’m not holding my breath today…tomorrow begins a new chance

to not acknowledge how lackluster and listless this team has performed.

I get that.

But it isn’t 15-0. Which I guess it kind of my point. People watch something and start subjectively feeling like things are much worse than they are b/c they get frustrated. But an objective view indicates that (even with a horrible first part of the game), there’s no reason they can’t turn it around in 2 innings and win. 5 runs isn’t that much.

by CubsWin!Oregon on Jun 28, 2009 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

true enough

And, I’ll add, your line of reasoning is probably what goes through the minds of players on teams that do mount terrific late comebacks.

by CaliCub on Jun 28, 2009 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You need momentum

The problem isn’t the 5 run deficit, it’s the goose egg on the board. There’s a different feeling between 5-0 and 6-1…

Bounced to short

Riot makes the toss to Lee, three outs.

I can't believe this

White 7, 8, 9 hitters each hitting under .250
today: 8 PA, 5 times they have reached base
