and now
Z hits Wise. The home plate umpire gets between the two of them. Z is being told to go back to the mound. Wise to first.
I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

Brenly airing out Theriot
Says that, on a steal attempt, Theriot always moves up to take the throw and reaches back for the tag, instead of staying back on the bag and letting the throw get there.
by CaliCub on Jun 28, 2009 3:06 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
It's not the first time he's said that...
And he’s absolutely right. I don’t know why no one has talked to Theriot about it.

I think his comment was about most infielders, not just Theriot
…and he is right. The throw by Soto beat the runner. The ball can move faster than the mitt.

only because Soto didn't get up
a pitch out is the proper thing to do when you see the runner charging down from third—it prevents the bunt and gives the catcher an easy put out..if he gets off his butt and catches the ball. Unfortunately Soto was napping and it was called a WP.

How about instead I show you some game film?
Yes, Soriano has a great arm. But he takes terrible routes to balls and just doesn’t give 100%. When’s the last time you saw him dive for a ball? I can’t remember ONE instance of that happening as a Cub.

A payroll over $100M and 100 losses… that had to suck.

Same with Detroit last year
Great team on paper but they finished 72-90. Thankfully they were able to bring in some better defense and pitching this year.

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. I have to say I'm a little perplexed why there is so much doom and gloom in here.
It’s only a 5 run lead. Not exactly insurmountable, even in 2 innings.
by CubsWin!Oregon on Jun 28, 2009 3:30 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
No, it's not a joke.
Have you watched much baseball? Cut the lead in half this inning, work on the rest in the last.
Hell, teams even score 5 in an inning.

my comment was in response as to why there was so much "doom and gloom"
in this chat…i think the entire season has something to do with it, not just our chances of coming back in this game. And in response to your dickish comment on whether or not i watch much baseball…yeah, i tend to watch from time to time

I get that.
But it isn’t 15-0. Which I guess it kind of my point. People watch something and start subjectively feeling like things are much worse than they are b/c they get frustrated. But an objective view indicates that (even with a horrible first part of the game), there’s no reason they can’t turn it around in 2 innings and win. 5 runs isn’t that much.

true enough
And, I’ll add, your line of reasoning is probably what goes through the minds of players on teams that do mount terrific late comebacks.
