Miles to the DL
According to ESPN in Chicago, the Cubs are expected to place Aaron Miles on the disabled list Monday with a hyperextended elbow.
The report mentioned the Cubs would recall either Bobby Scales or possibly Sam Fuld to take his place on the active roster. The move is expected to be made official before Monday's game against the Pirates.
Bobby Scales has earned another trip to the big leagues but with Ryan Freel on the roster the right move might be to bring up Sam Fuld.
Fuld has not played in the majors since 2007 but is one of the better defenders in the Cubs' system ... and is on the Cubs 40-man roster.
In 73 games for the Iowa Cubs, Fuld has hit .286/.358/.399 with 16 doubles and eight triples ... not to mention 20-for-25 in the stolen base department.

Oh, happy day!
Fuld hits lefthanded. What we really need is an outfielder who hits RIGHThanded and can platoon with Fukudome until Reed Johnson comes back. Fuld is a defensive replacement/pinch runner.

Freel could play CF.
Question is could he hit well enough to justify sitting Fukudome.
well
really the question is, can he hit well enough to replace RJ till RJ is back from the DL. that’s about 10 days, right? How many left-handers will we face till RJ returns?
I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. Well, at least 1
Duke tonight for Pittsburgh. Then the probables show RHPs for the next 4: Ross Ohlendorf, Virgil Vasquez, Seth McClung, Jeff Suppan.

I could see Fuld coming up for a bit
Lou clearly isn’t happy with Fukudome right now, and with Reed out, we could use some balls help in centerfield. Here’s to more acrobatic catches!
Anyone else sniffin'
Fuld for ROY???

Right off the bat...
I’d say bring up Sam Fuld because maybe he can try and help jump start this stagnant offensebut, as Al mentioned, is the overload with the LH bats.
I don’t know. HOW ’BOUT A TRADE, JIMMY BOY?!

Here, I have an idea.
So Taguchi hit a HR for Iowa tonight. He is hitting .306 with a .406 OBA. He hits righthanded.
Yes, he’s not on the 40-man roster. So what? There are two vacancies.
He couldn’t be any worse than what Fukudome has put on the board vs. LHP.

Yeah, they were probably working with eachother during ST but its a little different when you’re in the thick of things this much into the season.

The Cardinals staff does an excellent job of making mediocre players play above their potential. If they don’t want a player (in a position of need), then chances are we have no business dealing for them.
See Mabry, John and Miles, Aaron we got lucky with Edmunds.

Guess who is not in the Iowa lineup tonight ?
FULD. Could mean nothing but he has played almost every game . Taguchi and Scales are playing. I had checked the score an hour ago and I was kind of disappointed. Now I hope it is a clue.

In all seriousness....
In what scenario could we get Milton to play in AAA for a week to really work on his swing and get his confidence back?
Why can’t he be like Contreras and actually suggest this himself?

But do you really want MB gone for 15 days with the offense struggling so bad? And I’m not sure this would do a great deal to help.
Right...
Milton’s leading the team in:
average… wait.
HRs?…. uhhhh
OBP… no no no
RBIs… uhhhh jes?
Milton is nothing to this offense. Maybe it isn’t logistically feasible but somethings gotta give.

I'd rather see Taguchi come up
Balances with the lefty/righty thing. He can left and center credibly. Fuld wouldn’t be brought up to start. Just pinch run, and play late inning defense if we ever have a lead again. Scales deserves another shot, but just not in this situation.
Taguchi will be 40 on Thursday

But he has very good numbers in Iowa playing more than anyone else on the roster. This team NEEDs some speed more than it needs a 40 year old veteran look and Dome feel comfortable with.

Why?
You think this team is going to bunt its way to victory?
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
The inability of this team to get EITHER sacrifice bunts
or sacrifice with runners on 3rd and less than two out has been a MAJOR factor in our losses.
I remember being at a game when a sacrifice was DESPERATELY needed in the Indians series and
seeing Blanco at bat so I said to my friend " well he just came up from Iowa so he probably still knows how to bunt" and he did.

The thing is
This team is not built for small ball. I mean we can’t even get a lucky stolen base. It would be nice to see more of it, but I don’t know if adding a player like Fuld (or anyone else from Iowa) is going to translate into solving the factor in losses you mention.
"Ask Dad. He'll know. And on the off chance he doesn't, he'll make something up"
Fuld is another LH
and they don’t need another LH to fill Johnson’s spot on the roster.
So tell us, what are Fuld’s batting numbers against LH pitching?

They go where the money is. They are trained to do that by their families and their union.
If you look objectively, you find a lot against the Cubs. Their locker and training facilities are Third World. The city is gripped by some insane curse talk. The day-night thing is irritating to some.
And not for nothing, other cities have much more lenient city and state taxes than Chicago.
And 75 percent of the players out there are going where someone will have them.
When Miles mercifully is done with the Cubs, he will not have his choice of places. He may hate the Texas weather and think Houston is the dirtiest city on the planet, but if the Astros are the only team that calls, he’ll go.

I have NO problem with Miles signing the contract. Anyone who has read me knows I’m pretty pro-player in that regard.
My comment was more geared to the fact that this is two DL trips now for Miles and I believe the real reason is “general suck” rather than any real injury.
And a player with an ounce of shame would protest that. It’s lucky for us that Miles knows his only real value to the team is his willingness to NOT play through pain.

Can we pay him in metric? Or perhaps pesos?

i would like to see Fuld come up but i want him to get at bats so the taguchi idea sounds the best

I really like Scales
but, with Freel on the bench already, Fox moving to 3rd supposedly, and Blanco, Fontenot, and Theriot, I think we’re going to see a Sam Fuld sighting tomorrow. AND, I believe I called this last week. :) Ok ok, i was half kidding, but still!

Doesn’t Fuld have diabetes?

what is Fuld hitting in triple AAA
I seem him to remember him having a pretty weak bat? We need offense.

I would not too much in a few months in AAA but
It is interesting that he hits better when behind in the count and significatnly better with RISP. That would be nice.

I’m here to help.
Didn’t know that factoid but you’re right… little different.

Yes "read" which I clearly forgot to do while typing that
Perhaps I am too excited at the thought of Fuld making it up but that probably does not explain the rest of my typos.

He was in the 240s a few weeks ago
He has been hot lately. Basically little power, lots of speed, above average defense, good contact hitter.

ugh, a AAA player languishing in the .240s most of the season?

THAT's your favorite?
not whether he’s a boxers or briefs guy? Or his inseam?
I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

Well also his Mom is in the NH legislature
He is a college graduate with an actual degree ( economics) and is likely the only MLB player to graduate from Phillips Exeter.
The fact that he is cute has nothing to do with it.

ARam update?
Please someone confirm we might be a week away from him coming back?
I thought I read/heard he might start some minor league games Wednesday/Thursday?
He is taking batting practice
But I sincerely doubt he is THAT close to getting back.
Here is the latest non information story.

Did miles hyperextend his elbow trying to reach up to the top of second base while he was standing next to it
Hector Villanueva ate himself out of the big leagues, He was a Big Big leaguer
NO HE DROPPED HIS
paycheck in the lockerroom and bent over to pick it up……ouch
ben wallace did that right after
signing with the bulls. he was never the same.
Miles is inactive
so who will they blame for all the Cubs problems now?

So Taguchi fits the type of player that does everything about average
but doesn’t make stupid mistakes. I hope the Cubs call him up. Maybe he and Kosuke can bond? I think So is Japanese ….
Milton ...... see the ball hit the ball
It's official
Hendry still has no idea how to build a roster

Hmm
Now everyone will hold me personally responsible for everything he does.
Honestly the fact that he was not in last night’s game despite having played in 73 out of Iowa’s 75 games did seem like a clue.

Do you think maybe someone could teach Fuld?
Not to go head first into the wall again?

He was fine and he caught the ball
I believe he said he didn’t exactly realize it was a brick wall. He probably does now.

Only one of the three most famous ballparks in the majors...
There is no such thing as an ugly female breast
Fuld
Is going to be one hell of an Actuary when he finishes at Stanford. In 20 years we’ll be reading about his post Cubs career in Vine Line.
"Ask Dad. He'll know. And on the off chance he doesn't, he'll make something up"
And laughing when we say
“Not bad for a guy who didn’t know not to run into a brick wall!”

He is finished at Stanford
He has a degree.

It was my understanding
He was getting a graduate degree in statistics – in the off-season.
"Ask Dad. He'll know. And on the off chance he doesn't, he'll make something up"
and this guy went to stanford?

He made a great catch and was not injured
Better than Soriano who seems to have deadly fear of the wall after he crashed into it once.

Pretty sure Soriano understands the wall is made of bricks
and has always been made of bricks. Which was the point

No Soriano ran into once
And has been nervous about going near it since.

I would rather of had Taguchi up here. Oh well.
