"Because our fans are not stupid like Cubs fans," Guillen said. "They know we're [expletive]."

What a complete embarrassment to the game.

Not stupid?

Yet they wear goat masks and do magic tricks in $500 seats behind home plate? Come on…

*yawn* Wha'?

Ozzie talked about Cubs fans again? That’s nice.

Exactly

In the rare moments that I notice Ozzie, I find him actually funny.

Nothing to see here.

Ozzie, Ozzie, Ozzie...

…Cubs fans aren’t stupid, my man. They know you’re s**t, too.

Little man syndrome.

Plain and simple. From the manager, to the players, and the fans in the stands. A fair number of them care more about the Cubs losing than their own team winning.

True

The harsh reality (for them) is that even after winning the WS the Sox are clearly the number 2 baseball team in town…still…and they know it.

All the anti-Cubs BS starts there.

Its so true

They know that they will never be as popular as the Cubs, the Cubs and Wrigley Field are usually the first things people associate with Chicago. I just moved out to California about 6 months ago, and when I first tell people I am from Chicago the first thing they always ask me is if Im a Cubs fan.

And what KILLS them...

…is that they still play second fiddle despite 101 year drought.

They try so hard to have their own identity, yet they throw back homerun balls, have ivy in the outfield, etc…

We fill wrigley cause we give a shit about our team. We dont give up less then half way through the year. What a dumbass

I make a conscious effort..

…NOT to let Ozzie get to me, so I’m laughing off his quote as more inane grandstanding. But I’m not even sure I understand what he means. Cubs fans are stupid because we wanted to see our guys take on the best team in the National League? Or is he saying smart fans shouldn’t bother showing up to games when their team is struggling? And why would he say this when the Sox haven’t lost a series since the second week of this month?

I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

maybe he meant to say

“they know we’re THE [expletive]”?

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

Y'know, I kinda wondered that, too.

If that’s what he meant, he should’ve punctuated it with “beeahhhhhtch!”

Yawn

The Cubs have more issues than worrying about Ozzie.

by rlpete on Jun 29, 2009 1:29 PM CDT reply actions

I don't think I've ever seen a coach, manager, player, owner, or anyone actually involved with a team

come this close to actually SUPPORTING the idea that fans are stupid, if they root on their team through the bad times. Seriously, I’ve always thought Ozzie Guillen was a buffoon, but he’s taken that to a whole other level.

by WanderingWanderer on Jun 29, 2009 2:06 PM CDT reply actions

God help, I love him

seriously, I think he’s awesome. Nor do I think its far fetched to suggest that many people in Wrigley go for the bar like atmosphere

Any time a Sox fan makes this argument...

…I quickly point out that they have cheerleaders. They have a silly mascot. They have stupid promotions between the innings. They have loud music all throughout the game. An entire game at the Cell feels like one ongoing commercial. And Cubs fans are the ones who don’t pay attention to the game?!

Never been to the Cell

So I’ll take your word for it….I suppose all sports arenas are guilty of over stimulation

True for most modern stadiums.

Miller Park and Chase Field, two places I’ve been to recently, are pretty much the same.

what an idiot

so he’s basically calling Sox fans fairweather fans and admitting that Wrigley is the bomb. yeah, we’ll go to our team’s games, even when they’re struggling. yeah a game at Wrigley is an event even greater than just a baseball game.

i agree on all counts, ozzie. ’cept for Cubs fans being stupid, that is.
