I'm not surprised....
.. that this land has been targeted. It makes a lot of sense to use it for that purpose. Kind of makes Tucson’s bid to get the Orioles to move west irrelevant, doesn’t it?

I'm not at all hopeful
that spring training can be saved. I just don’t see the Phoenix area being able to support all the teams up there. They will be canabolizing themselves and the attendence won’t be any better than what they would draw here.
I bet in 5 to 10 years some of the teams will be complaining as usual about wanting newer facilities and will threaten to move elsewhere and maybe 4 teams would want to come down here then. Still would have to deal with the travel up to Phnx. but at least four teams would be down here.
We’ll just have to wait and see.

How do they cannibalize themselves?
Except for the Diamondbacks, every other team training there comes from another city. The fans come from that city, not Phoenix. If anything, it will increase tourism in the Phoenix area.
