Peddler Ban to Expand
I have never been bothered by these people in any way shape or form. I can understand if you don't want them within the confines of Addison, Clark, Waveland, and Sheffield, but a two block ban is ridiculous. This reminds me of when Bill Wirtz said that people couldn't bring in a bag of peanuts into the UC anymore because he wanted the peanut concessions. This seems like a money grab for the Cubs and quite petty. And to think they have Tunney on a leash like this.

I kind of agree with this
It is very annoying to have to navigate around these people to get to the park.. They stand in the most inconvenient spots on the corners of Sheffield and Addison..

These are the same guys who peddle the racist t-shirts and the crap catering to the stereotypical idiot fan. The less of their childish and offensive wares the better.

I think those are the minority
Let people earn a living. That’s not to condone the racist paraphernalia, I can understand if there were ramification to that, but this seems to me to be very petty.

Those guys are always in the way. Sometimes I just want to walk down a sidewalk without having to step into the street to get around peddlers.

They're profiling, pure and simple
Not sure who’s really behind this – I guess I’m assuming the Cubs, but maybe the City has an axe to grind here as well. Regardless, the solution to this problem is selective enforcement.
What about all those temporary souvenir stand monstrosities that are on every corner and sidewalk? Those guys take up much more space and cause much more traffic issues than the couple dozen or so peddlers who walk around the park, carrying everything with them.
It was the same thing with scalper/brokers a few years ago. Go hard after the scalpers but leave the brokers alone. While getting rid of the scalpers may seem like a good thing, letting the brokers flourish has hardly helped. They have spilled over from their “storefronts” into the sidewalks and streets. They constantly yell and hawk their tickets all day long, impeding foot traffic all around Wrigley. But you can’t say a thing because just about every one of them has an off-duty cop standing there to make sure nobody else tries to resell a ticket nearby.
Yeah, that’s life and that’s how it goes. I understand all that. All I’m saying is don’t believe that there are any good intentions behind this Peddler Ban effort. Because there aren’t.

I could not agree more
The folks who sell peanuts are really a traffic threat Vs the “brokers” who litter the streets in front of their “offices”.

Good riddance
The proximity area around Wrigley is lttered with idiots hawking everything. Get rid of them.
$136 million payroll for a .500 style ballclub. Good work Jim.
this only moves the problem further into the neighborhood.
these people are going to be banging thier plastic buckets and hawking thier racist and mostly stupid shirts (except for SUX shirts of course), but with this law we will ahve cops pusing these people to the corners of addison and racine or wilton, where people actually live, rather than right outside the park where all the bars and chaos already is. be careful what you wish for wrigleyville residents. would you rather have the drummers outside the ballpark, or right under your window 2 blocks away from the park? think about it.
wrigleyville
sure, scalpers and vendors wanna make a living…just like the wrigleyville residents who overprice their parking lots…i paid $40 on a thurs afternoon eight blocks away!!! not all of us can hop on a train or a bus…i’ll bet us “tourists” from the burbs make up half of the 40,000 that show up everyday!!! knock down a few blocks and put up a parking ramp. i used to go to 7 or 8 games a year, now it’s only one because of traffic, parking, etc..Wrigleys great once you get in there (after you pay a couple hundred bucks for tickets, parking, and one beer!!!) ok, i’ve vented long enough…
With all due respect
EVERYONE can hop a train or bus. Drive the car to park & ride or to an El stop a few miles away and hop that.

wat?
I commute to Wrigley from Algonquin (far west suburbs). Aside from a 10 minute drive to the Metra, there are myriad ways to use public transport to get to Wrigley.

far northwest?
which metra line (west or northwest)?

I like the peanuts and the guys who sell them
…and I’ll still search them out before the games.
BTW, on the original post – and I can’t believe I’m defending dollar Bill – you still can’t get peanuts in the UC. They defended the peanut ban as part of clean-up inside the arena and have kept it that way since it opened in 1994.
Just win the next game...!
Bucket boys gotta go!
They are relentless. I sat in the last row of section 523 with my back to Addison, and I had to listen to that banging the whole game. They never stopped! They must pass the sticks like a relay team when it is bathroom time.
Ya gotta love a team with a shortstop named TheRiot ...
The biggest problem here is....
… that the vendors will just move a few blocks away and start blocking foot traffic on THOSE blocks.

I say leave the vendors alone
they are part of the fun of the ballpark to me.
It adds to the carnival atmosphere and i like it.
