well
let’s see what happens on Monday.
I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

and I would hope a few games in Iowa to get some good swings and rediscover his swing of yesteryear.

I think this "experiment" is over
They should just release him. Or send him to AAA. We’re not going to be able to trade him for a bag of balls. Maybe Lou learned his lesson about acquiring guys with a “questionable” past. As far as I’m concerned, I’ve washed my hands of Uncle Milton. He’s going to need to put up monstrous numbers and conduct himself like a human being for a LONG time to earn even a SHRED of my respect back. Maybe he can play for the Bush League, where he belongs.

Drew...
It’s not just that he got hurt. He gave up on the team. His at-bats were getting better, then the team lost 8 in a row and he shut it down. He did the same thing in Texas… team started losing and he got “hurt.” He also lost out on his 3rd year option, which probably caused him to give up even more. He’s probably one of the most selfish players in the past 10 years… I’m sure the players will be happy they don’t have to deal w/ him for a few weeks.

Wild speculation
And there’s zero chance of him being released or sent to AAA.

you think Bradley
“shut it down”? I don’t. I saw him struggle through the losing streak, and get hurt legging out a grounder. It’s frustrating that he can get hurt this easily, but I’m not someone who looks at Bradley and thinks “Selfish”, not one little bit.

Agreed...
it’s hard to argue that a player “shut it down” when he is sprinting down the line on a grounder to SS. He didn’t look happy about it after it happened. He angrily hobbled straight to the clubhouse.
Bradley is too much of a competitor to simply give up. He has too much pride too, and he knows his reputation is that he can’t stay healthy. If there’s one thing I wouldn’t accuse Bradley of, it’s shutting it down.

I don't question
his desire to play, or his desire to win. The guy is always hurt, there is nothing else to say about the guy. It was a bad signing, maybe 80 games this year.

I'm sorry but this makes no sense
Bradley’s hitting while still poor has been getting better not worse since the losing streak. His AVG, OBP and SLG are all highe now than before the losing streak started. How did he shut it down?
Damn those facts getting in the way.
by rlpete on Jun 4, 2009 5:23 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
He "shut it down"
by getting hurt while hustling to try and beat out an infield hit.
If LBR does that he’s just scrappy; if Milton does it, its more reason to hate him. As I said in another thread, people who started off disliking Milton are willing to believe the absolute worst about him.

Release him, 2 months into that contract?
I wonder why you’re not a GM somewhere.
Seriously, I understand the frustration, but that’s just not realistic. I’m sure a lot of people were unhappy with the Dawson signing early in 1987, too.
So far, Bradley stinks. His Cub career isn’t written yet, though.

Why would people have been unhappy with Dawson early in '87?
On April 30, 1987 he was hitting .296/.360/.605 with 6 HR and 20 RBI in 81 AB.

Go back and look up his stats before the grand slam in St. Louis. I didn’t think that the point of comparison would be an issue, so I didn’t bother. But they weren’t good.

True.
He had a slow start the first three weeks and then caught fire.
Bradley hasn’t had a stretch like Dawson had yet. From April 24 to May 11, 1987 — 17 games — Dawson hit .414/.447/.871 with 6 doubles, a triple, 8 HR and 22 RBI.
We’d all be very happy if Bradley could have a 17-game stretch hitting even CLOSE to that.

Comparing him to Ramirez is a joke. Take a look at the numbers, I would take Ramirez any day of the week to Milton, not even close.

I'm going to stand up for my opinion here
Normally I’d apologize for speaking up like I did, but I’m sick and tired of this guy and his antics. Yes, he’s two months into his contract – and so what? He should either go to the DL, or play through it. This “oh I got an owie and now I’m going to sit for 2 weeks, eating up bench space” has got to stop. Bradley has tied Lou’s hands, and the problem needs to be resolved one way or another. A DL stint to heal and a week at AAA would certainly help, let him slowly get back to game speed before sticking him in there and letting him hurt himself. Meanwhile, we can have a productive addition to the team taking his roster spot.
Also, when I talked about him “shutting it down” I was more talking about what he did last year with Texas… I’ve seen him hustle for the Cubs… twice. Both times he was injured. That has to be a major mental set back for a guy… if you continually hurt yourself when you went 100%, what motivation would you have to do it again?
Look, I just don’t see how this relationship will be successful… Milton has too much baggage, and not enough skill and/or durability right now. I hope he proves me wrong, but I’m standing by this one… sorry guys.

I sit at home after the Cubs lose and wanna pound sand but I know I live in a state without that kinda land. I know in my heart Sori isn't a guess hitting hack and that Dero will never be back. Pitching is King, some do say and hopefully Aaron Miles doesn't play in a Cub uniform another day. By October this I know, to the playoffs we are for sure to go. Go Cubbies!!

Bradley is like a rorsharch test for bad fans
You’re seeing what you want to see. His “antics” have consisted of, what exact? One throwaway comment about the umps and an ejection?
The notion that he doesn’t hustle is ludicrous. He’s had a couple of bunt singles in games where we were down by a few runs because people just needed to get on base. People swooned when Fukudome did that stuff last year. I’ve been to a half dozen games and he runs hard on every grounder, and has shown good hustle in the outfield.

Of course, this is really discouraging..but let's get him healthy.
I for one felt good about the signing, and also feel good about MB’s skills, though I realize they took a risk given his injury history. That said, I think he’s been playing hurt all year (as have Lee and Sori) and in his case it’s hurting his performance and hurting the team. I maintain that wins in September and October (and November this year) are where it’s at, and am certain MB can help us then. I don’t care if we win 117 games – if we then fail in the post-season I think we haven’t hit the goal that everyone has.
Let’s forget all his promises about playing time, DL him fro 15 days, and focus on getting him playing at 100%, which we have not yet seen this year.
by DisCUBbobulated on Jun 4, 2009 12:42 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Why is there ALWAYS drama on this guy's status on the roster
He sat useless on the Cub bench for nearly 3 weeks instead of going on the DL. Then there was him appealing his suspension even though he was activated yet already sitting useless on the bench with injury. Now we go through yet another back and forth saga of is he going on the DL or is he not going on the DL? WTF. I’m getting a little bit disgusted of the kid gloves Lou Piniella and the organization are having in this Milton Bradley affair. If he can’t play then put him on the friggin disabled list and be done with it. It’s ridiculous is what it is.

The argument isn't just that Bradley is hurt a lot...
it’s that he’s hurting the team by wasting a roster spot with indecision about the DL.
Ramirez has played half as much as Bradley, but he’s been on the DL almost all of the time he’s missed. Bradley sat around for the entirety of a DL stint without going on the DL. Now, there’s a delay again.

We have operated with a defacto 24 man roster for two dozen or so games because it can’t be determined how friggin hurt Milton Bradley is !!! Lou needs to pull his head out of his ass in this matter. It’s not up to Bradley to say he doesn’t need to go on the DL.
