DREW!

I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

Rockies up 2-1 top of the seventh.

Pujols jacked one in the bottom of the sixth, but the Rox have the bases loaded with none out in the seventh, and there is a 3-0 count on the batter.

Nice victory

Z was great all the way around, and the pen got out of some sticky wickets.

It would be nice if Gregg didn’t have to get four outs every time he came in for a save, however.

That's entertainment

The score was only 2-1, so they had to give you some bang for your buck. :) Maybe with the rookie pitching tomorrow for the Reds, the Cubs can make it a laugher.

Pondering making the 4 1/2-hour drive to Cincy tomorrow for the game, but they never seem to win when I go there. Skyline Chili is almost worth the drive in itself, however.

He got three outs on Wednesday.

Though, I agree with you about the four-out save thing. Dropping one third strike is fine, but our catchers need to hold onto balls that aren’t in the zone.

It seems to me that he's been streaky to this point.

He’ll be lights out in one save, and then he seems to “lose it” and can’t find the zone in other game-closing situations (see game against Houston at Wrigley earlier this year).

I hope he turns it around, too.

I certainly think he has the potential

to do it.

Looking at Wood’s line, I believe he has two blown saves in 10 chances. So he’s actually a little worse, percentage-wise, than Gregg is now.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Jun 5, 2009 10:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Was that Houston game

a save situation? I didn’t think it was.

That said, I can’t understand why there’s that much variance in performance between save and non-save situations. A lot of closers are like that.

by Not Bruce Froemming on Jun 5, 2009 10:23 PM CDT up reply actions

The Houston game was not a save situation.

Gregg went in because he was warming up during the eighth inning that day. Had the Cubs not scored in the bottom of the eighth, then yes, it would have been a save opportunity. Heilman technically blew the save, but that’s because the Cubs lead was 4-2 when he came in.

Cubs By The Numbers

Cubs By The Numbers is a history of the ballclub by uniform number, but the biographies help trace the history of our beloved team in a new way.
