No, no, a thousand times no for Jim Edmonds in the HOF.

I'll put it to you like this,
and then I’ll thank you for your time.
My answer is…
…no.

Hmph.
Never realized how awesome his offensive numbers are. A career .905 OPS and OPS+ 132. That’s damn, damn good.

I didn't even click on the link before I knew the answer.
No.
Edmonds was a very good player for a long time. But HoF? No.

I have to disagree --
The guy is, arguably, one of the top 10 CF of all time. If he doesn’t make the Hall, he’ll rather clearly be the best CF not in the Hall.
Here’s a post I put up in a HOF-related blog which I haven’t updated in a few months. (Three trials in 2 months!? Get out of here.)

Put simply, 18 more HR would have done him a world of good. But even as it stands, the argument against him is difficult.

NO
A very good player for a long time. But no Hall of Fame. In fact there are striking parallels to Ron Santo in this regard. I like Santo as much as the next guy, but he doesn’t belong in the Hall either.
You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little messed up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?

I was on the fence
But now you’ve convinced me — he should be in!!!

How many better CF than Jed are not in the Hall?
Honestly…. not very many. It’s difficult to even make the case for one. Fred Lynn?
Edmonds is almost definitely in the top 10 CF of all time. I can’t believe it either.

No...
Baseball reference’s only “comparable” HOF player to him is Willie Stargell.
Of course, had Edmonds played for the Yankees, Red Sox or Mets, he’d be in.
I remember Cards fans, back in the day, talking about Rolen, Edmonds and Pujols all going in to the Hall.
Beep… wrong answer.

Edmonds' 10 most comparable players, from baseball-reference.com:
1. Ellis Burks
2. Dick Allen
3. Jason Giambi
4. Shawn Green
5. Fred Lynn
6. Andruw Jones
7. Duke Snider
8. Reggie Smith
9. Moises Alou
10. Rocky Colavito
Only Snider is in the HoF, and that’s because he was a Brooklyn Dodger who played in NY and was in a ton of World Series. None of the others is in or will ever be in. Edmonds is just about right in that group.

Either way, he should be a Cub in 2009

Yep
Could this team possibly be worse off with Jim Edmonds stil around instead of Milton Bradley? The money would have been there to keep Mark DeRosa then too.

Well there was the Gaetti risk factor
But the cost wouldve been minimal for sure; I still think they could use him….but w/ the years that Ibanez, Dunn and Abreu are having, this signing is looking horrible; I wonder what all the pro-Bradleys have to say now

what we've always been saying.
it’s extremely unlikely that he doesn’t improve.
I'm a Cubs FANATIC. They are my team, through thick and thin. When they play over their heads, and when they play under the gutter. When they win the division, and then get swept in the division series. When they get no-hitters and when they blow no-hitters. And some day, when they go all the way and get those rings. This is the kind of fan I am.

Edmonds' 2008 was less of an outlier than Gaetti's 1998.
Gaetti’s 1998 was pretty nice, but it was really 37 good games for the Cubs. Edmonds’ performance with the Cubs was more in line with what should have been expected for him – he’d had a bad 2007, but like 8 straight years of OPS+ well in excess of 100.

Milton Bradley
did NOT replace Jim Edmonds. Heavens to Murgatroyd.

I appreciate the Jetsons reference
But he did; Kosukes production, or lack there of, was shifted to CF, while Bradley’s was supposed to improve upon Kosukes RF production from last year.
So out of the three OF spots, only one changed. Fukudomes meager numbers are better tolerated, and less glaring, in the CF spot, but the fact remains our OF production is down due to Bradley’s poor performance and inability to stay on the field.

No Jim Edmonds. Thank you.

No.
He deserves recognition for a good career, but not admission to the HOF.

Dale Murphy
Dale Murphy is not going to make the Hall of Fame with 2 MVP’s. There’s no way Edmonds with 0 MVP’s will make it without Murphy making it.
