What an incredible article

Note - This story is about Dempster's sick child.
First glance I thought it was about pitchers throwing in elbow or shoulder pain.
Great find, MCF, recommended. Kinda hard to take Braun’s icy cold stares seriously when your kid is sick like this.

There's no doubt...
… that Dempster is a special human being and I hope all works out well for him and his family.
For him to have pitched even as well as he has, and that’s not as well as last year, under the circumstances, is remarkable.
Ryan Dempster is one of my favorite players.

He emphasizes he doesn’t want to be singled out and is seeking no sympathy.
’’It’s not fair for me to be a different exception,‘’ he said. ’’I don’t know what somebody else is dealing with in their personal life. You’ve still got to go out there and do your job."
Ryan Dempster is a man. A mature, centered, inspiring, no-BS, no excuses, grown-ass man. God bless you, Demp. We’re all praying for Riley.

I hope ol Pete and others from the other BCB
read this, so they will STFU about the pitch that hit came close to hitting Braun

They won't.
And even if they do, they’ll make some other excuse.

Since this article came out today...
I guess that’s why Pat & Ron briefly discussed Dempster & his daughter’s condition during the game. The poor little girl! I hope things will get better for the Dempster family.

Thank you for posting this
Makes me proud that Demp is a Cub, and I pray for nothing but the best for him, Riley, and his family. Rec’d.

I got a little teary eyed
at his “we’re lucky she’s ours” line.

Very touching piece
My favorite quote: "’’It’s been a grind,‘’ he said. ’’At the same time, we’re lucky she’s ours. Think how many kids out there would have something like that and never get the right treatment.’’
Now here is a guy who gets it. Good for you, Ryan.
Here’s hoping everything works out for the Dempsters and their little girl. Fortunately, Phoenix has a world class children’s hospital.

I believe...
… the article mentioned that the little girl was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Chicago a while back, which makes it much easier for Ryan to devote his attention there.
Since May 4 Dempster is 3-2, 3.25, with 15 BB and 39 K in 44.1 innings — pretty close to his numbers from last year. I’ll bet that was around the time this happened.
All best wishes and hopes for Ryan Dempster and his family.

There are few things worse...
…than having a child in the hospital. Best wishes to Demp and his wife. I think he’s doing an admirable job for the Cubs this season given this great personal challenge.
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.

A ray of hope
for all of us who have gone through similar things and still go to work and carry on our professional lives. Until you’ve gone through something like this, you have no idea how strong you have to be to just get through a day. Dempster just moved way up my respect chart.
This is only the beginning....Lou Pinella end of '07 season and Chicago Transit Authority (the band when they were really good).

Agree...
I have a 2 year old daughter with a tracheotomy (not the same disease as Dempster’s daughter, but she was a preemie as well) so I wish them all the best in getting through this together. He was already a favorite Cub…this moves him up to the top cause I understand the nights in the hospital and dealing with the work/life balance issues. Good luck to the family.
Ohhhh I don't know, I got a guy on the other line about some whitewalls - I'll call you back.

I’ve been a fan of Dempster for years, even before he was a Cub. Since he’s come to the Cubs my admiration for the man has grown and grown. I didn’t think I could become any bigger of a fan of the man, but after reading this story…wow.
Let’s hope they can find a treatment for Riley Dempster and all the others who suffer from her condition, and soon.
