I hope this guy is good.
Can anyone tell me about him?

Quick bat
Nice swing, seems to turn on the ball well. Thanks for the clip!
Just saw Coldplay
kids drug me to the show, great show.
Jacksons downsided swings and misses, we will see. I like the pick. Looks like a good athlete, built well, and hits on the left side, Lou must of made the pick.
"Have You heard of the Boom on Mizar 5?"
I just saw Coldplay too.
I thought they were great live . They exceeded my expectations, Hopefully this kid will too.

MLB Network was really high on him...
Saying position player-wise they thought he could have been the 1st pick. Also, they compared him to Edmonds. Very athletic, has all the tools. If he can have half the career Jim did, I think he will be alright.

MLB Network
was high on everyone. The Cubs could have drafted my 16 month old daughter and they would have raved about her “potential.”
Jackson is a pick the scouts like more than the statheads though.

I could definitely go for a homegrown Jimmy Ballgame.
I've committed to tweeting about the Cubs for the rest of the season. (Does that sound as ridiculous as I think it does?) Anyway, if you're on Twitter, you can follow me here.
One thing I like
from the video is that he seems to hang in there really well against other left-handers. The opening home run is off of a lefty.
Of course, it’s really hard to draw any conclusions since this is clearly a “greatest hits” video. It doesn’t show him striking out.
Very impressed with the bat speed
and he doesn’t have a real long swing either.

Agreed
His swing doesn’t look bad. Not sure why all the strikeouts. Maybe Wilken thinks they can fix it.
Thanks for the clips!
Looks like in 5 years he’ll be backing-up Tyler Colvin in AA.
God that sounded awful.
Best of luck to him!

Great Swing!
Here’s hoping he wears pinstripes for a long time!

You should really be more specific.
Don’t want him wearing Iowa Cubs pinstripes for years and years:)

.
That's nice Josh but...
you neglected to show any of his myriad K’s that some scouting sites stated brought him back in the draft-pack.
Let’s hope he can improve on that.
But I am glad Wilkens chose him.
I didn't make the video
I just posted it.
Had I made it, it would have been more even. On the other hand, I wasn’t scouting him either.

thanks Josh
do not pay any mind to those who want to see all the strikout’s, thanks for the posting. Great job as usual.

If EVERYONE thought the guy was the next Mickey Mantle
He wouldn’t have lasted until the 2d pick, let alone the 31st. Unless you’re picking number 1 overall, the key to the draft is in being able (through hard work, keen eyes, or just dumb luck) to draft guys who do much better than everything thinks they are going to do.
The greatest cub draft pick of all time (Maddux) was a second rounder after all. You think that’s because no one wanted a guy who would win 300+ games and multiple Cy Youngs? Or is it because everyone — from casual fans up to GMs — looked at him and saw something less than what he became? Same principle here. This guy could be great, or he could be a bust, we just won’t know until he does it.

Absolutely
I think people justifiably question his ability because of the strikeouts, but if he didn’t have all those strikeouts, he’d have gone in the top ten.
I’m not in love with the pick, but before it happened, everyone on the board wanted Tim Wheeler over Jackson. Well I like Wheeler too, but he doesn’t have a lot of upside and most of his numbers were put up against the rather mediocre WAC conference.
Wheeler is more likely to be a major leaguer than Jackson is. Jackson is more likely to be a star than Wheeler.

Wow, you can make that assessment based on a YouTube video?
You’re like a SuperScout.

Apologies for my quibble
but wouldn’t D.J. Lemahieu be “the Newest Cub?”
You could dismiss this trivial point of order, or accept it as an odd token of appreciation for all the outstanding coverage of the Cubs’ prospects and affiliates.
“And a good day to you, sir!”
"This is an environment of welcoming, and you should just get the hell outta here." --Michael Scott
If you want to quibble
None of them are “the newest Cub” because none of them have signed a contract yet. The “newest Cub” is probably Anderson Machado.

I saw Fleetwood Mac....
on Monday night in Milwaukee. Great show also. It was like a trip down Memory Lane. Fourteen of the twenty three song set were from the Fleetwood Mac (75), and Rumours (77) albums. And Stevie still looks fine at 60.
Lou must love this kid
he hits lefty
baseball is a game of outs......pop out, ground out, line out, pitch out, strike out, fly out, and Fox and Bud's favorite black out
Link which has info on players picked by the cubs in the first
10 or 11 rounds. Has videos on some and links to bio pages from schools they attended…
Worth a look if you want to read more on the new Cubs.
Wait -- the video of Wesley Darvill
shows him hitting into a fielder’s choice. Is that really the best highlight reel he could put together? Talk about bad marketing.
